Great while it lasted
This lantern helped through power outages really well, it’s very versatile. It lasted about three years or so but not after that. I changed the batteries which did not help. It’s just dead. And after the warranty period. It never left my home, as it was used only as backup, so its short life was not because of wear and tear.

Great Lantern! Poor battery install instructions!
I wanted to offer a critique of the battery installation instructions. No instructions included. No clear instructions on the box. I expected for all of the batteries to go in the same direction. Tried inserting all 3 + end into the battery compartment. When that didn’t work I reversed and placed all 3 of the “-“ end into the battery compartment. Next grabbed a digital battery tester and all 3 batteries were fully charged. Finally noticed “-“ & “+” markings on the screw on bottom and inside of the battery compartment. Inserted the battery(s) as indicated and the lantern worked! I noticed some reviews that indicated their RADIANT® 400 LANTERN DIDN’T WORK OUT OF THE BOX. I SUSPECT THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD HAVE USED ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS.

BEST Camp/Household LAMP
Was in need of a dependable, sturdy Camp Lantern as much for household use as outdoor. i have now had mine for well over a year. Much to my surprise it has been the best of any brand previously used, whether headlamp, flashlight, micro, macro, battery, or rechargeable. Love the practical design features. Although battery powered the triple DDD's last despite accidentally leaving on for hours on numerous occasions! The unit is all but indestructible indoors, at least. In fact, i just dropped it down a flight of carpeted stairs (14) from landing to wooden floor, where it had it's crash landing...still works fine and looks new...Thus, a 5 ***** Review had to be made. Ready to try the Rechargeable Version next.

Effective Light during power outage
The power went out - we did not have any battery powered lanterns and older flashlights did not provide sufficient coverage. With stores still open we went out and purchased two. Inserting the batteries was interesting - and given a few of the other comments, the battery insertion instructions should be revised. If the batteries are inserted correctly, the lantern will not work. We assumed that we did not have the batteries in correctly, as we were reading the instructions by dim flashlights in the dark. That was true - One battery goes downward and two upward, and we initially had all three going the same direction. Once the batteries were inserted correctly, the lanterns worked well giving wide coverage and a range of brightness. Considering the rechargeable one as well. Instructions should be improved.

Problems out of the box
Purchased 1 day ago. Out of the box light would not remain lit. Flashed twice and turned off. Tried charging 2x's for recommended time. Will return to purchased location.

Won't turn on
I'm happy I bought D cells to test this before I go camping. It won't turn on.

Doesn’t work
Right out of the box, brand new batteries, doesn’t work. Disappointed. Not a great start to our camping trip :(
