Q: Does the pump work automatically, or do you have to manually switch it on every time?
submitted by Greg - 7 months ago
A: Our dehumidifier has both automatic and manual pump drainage options. The pump activates automatically for 35 seconds when the water tank is full, and the 'Full' light will turn on. If you want to manually drain the water, just press and hold the 'Drain' button - this will activate the pump for another 35 seconds. You can repeat this process until all the water is drained. For best performance, make sure to connect a drain hose to the Drainage Port. The pump can push water up to 16.4 feet (5 meters) in elevation.

We use the bucket and empty when full and from time to time the water puddles on the flood. The filter is insufficient to keep dust out of the water line and we cannot clear the blockage so we have to use a tray under the unit to catch the water. Never again!
Great Product!

We bought two of these units in the spring of 2018. We run both about 12 hours/day during the humid spring and summer months in a 1,400 sq ft renovated brick row house in a major east coast city. Our place is right on the harbor. After eight years one unit finally failed this month, July 2025; the other unit is still working. We run both units out of outlets that have local surge protectors, and there’s a commercial level whole house Siemens surge unit on the main electric panel. The only thing we’ve ever done to maintain these dehumidifiers has been to clean the air filters and occasionally to clean the collection tank. We did pull the plastic cover off the unit that failed just to see if we found anything obvious that could be repaired. Other than some mold on the evaporator, the unit was completely clean inside. In looking at the internals, the material and build quality seems excellent—copper piping, good brazing, heavy duty components, etc. Better than we expected for an electric device that everyone says is designed for a useful life of one-two years. 😊 The bottom line is that both of these units seem to have outlived the Home Labs dehumidifiers from the majority of other reviewers by 6-7 years. So why have our units lasted for eight years plus when the norm is apparently one or two years? I have no idea, but given that every home electric device now has at least one microprocessor, including dehumidifiers, and given how sensitive microprocessors are to power supply fluctuations, I’m wondering if our whole house surge protector and/or the local outlet surge protectors may have been a major factor. All in all, we’ve been pleased with Home Labs hardware and level of support. The only time we’ve had reason to reach out was recently when we asked if Home Labs had any info on how best to remove the machine’s outer shell (they don’t). But they were easy to reach and answered our questions in a professional way. Just wanted to share this since most of the feedback on home dehumidifiers from Home Labs and for that matter any other dehumidifier brand is so much more negative than our experience has been.

Bought the unit in September, used it for one season it worked fine. Next season never collected water. Warranty had lapsed, since I used for just one season….I thought they would do right for me and reputation. I was offered a 20% coupon off at regular price. Reading other reviews …it’s shocking to read similar stories. Why Homelabs should I invest in another one?
No need to debate. This is your solution.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Removes a shocking amount of water from the air. Nice soothing hum with 2 speeds. Dried the carpets in a room after shampooing within 3-4 hours. Got the humidity down to 38%. It'll be 90%+ humidity outside and below 50% in our house. Definitely will purchase again. Way more cost effective than a whole home dehumidifier and without cutting into your ceiling.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My previous questions did not reveal to me what the pump actually did. Now that I understand it, I know that I do not need it, and I will never use it. But I think the dehumidifier works fine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We only have the unit a few months but so far we are very pleased with our Homelabs 50 pint unit. Six months will tell me if the unit will last years. I was so tired of trying to figure out which one to order and my son said he has this unit and it is working great. That convinced me and decided this one will be the one to order after so much time trying to decide. So far a happy camper.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I set up the machine in my fathers basement after having mold remediation performed. It was very easy to set up and after 5 hours had reduced the moisture level from 55 to 47. The motor is very quite. I made the correct decision by purchasing a Homelab product.

Sadly, Ive joined the 2 year club: This dehumidifier became unusable after 2 years. Home labs solution for me is to buy another unit. I will never buy from this company again, and I would advise anyone else to avoid at all cost.
Ive not used it yet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ive not used it yet. I bought this one for a back-up. A unit I have stopped working. After I got this one, I was able to fix the other one. When and if it stops working, I will put this one in service.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I hate the side discharge on the unit. The tank is light weight. I now worry about the screws that hold the tank to frame breaking the tank off the outside case.

I have an earlier (non-wifi) version of this dehumidifier, and continue to be amazed at how much water it pulls from the air. I have had it running year-round for about 6 years and it still works great. I have tried other brands (GE, Danby) and they collected only half or one-third as much water as the HOme Labs device and they lasted only 1-2 years. When the time comes, Ill definitely buy another HOme Labs dehumidifier.
Stopped working after only one year of use

Bought this based on high reviews. Unit worked great at first, now doesn't work at all. We bought the unit less than two years ago, but it has only been in use for about 11 months as we only use it during the summer. Second summer we turned it on, unit wasnt collecting water. Cleaned and checked all dehumidifier parts as instructed. Still not working. Tried calling support line/help chat- both no longer in use and their help email has not replied. So, this dehumidifier stopped working after less than two years after purchase and after less than a year of actual use. Would NOT recommend.

These Homelabs work great for 21 to 25 months then they run but will NOT remove moisture anymore. Then replace again. This is the fourth time in 9 years. If you buy one get it somewhere that you can buy a warranty!!!! It will fail! All these other positve reviews are new purchase, go back and ask them how its going 3 years later.
Works better than I expected.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This device is excellent! I didnt intend to us it first in my house but I have dried out a bathroom for a few days that smelled a bit odd. Im amazed how much water it collects but then I am in the Pacific Northwest. I have also used the filter to help clear the air of the fresh paint smell. It has a few buttons I have not used yet and I have not yet used the hose, but I will soon. I got the first purchaser discount in email before I committed my cart.
So far, so good!

Just installed and loving it so far. This unit with the pump, by far, pulls more water out than any other dehumidifier I have owned. Love the wi fi feature as I am away alot. Only concern I have is the pump only turns on when bucket is full. It then pumps until the bucket float indicates the bucket is no longer full, yet, there is still alot of water in the bucket that is just sitting there. Wished the unit bypassed the bucket right to the pump out, or, at least, pumped the bucket dry. Standing water is just adding humidity back to the area and possibly mold issues. Am I doing something wrong? Would have given 5 stars if this issue can be fixed.
So far. So (very) good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the unit in place for just over a month and so far it has performed perfectly. The pump feature works really well and has reliably maintained humidity level as set. The Wi-Fi features are nice to have as well. The test will be its durability and reliability. I've had many dehumidifiers that have conked out after a year or so. Hopeful that the hOmeLabs unit performs better than most.
