SwissGear Endure ScanSmart 17" Laptop Backpack

This SwissGear Laptop Backpack is for my grandson’s high school graduation. He’s going off to college next fall and picked it out himself. What an amazing backpack!!! It has compartments for everything he will need to take to class, and he showed them all to me. Your backpacks are the best!!!

This was a replacement for a previous backpack. I had a 17. 5in Scan Smart 6752 which I loved but unfortunately is no longer available. This seemed to be a close replacement for that one but is definitely a downgrade. This is a high-quality, sturdy backpack with good padding on the straps and back. The padded reinforced handle is also a big plus. The sunglass case had a hard shell on the outside but there is no hard shell on the inside, only a felt lined pocket. I am concerned that when backpack is loaded the glasses could potentially be damaged by crushing from the inside. Some may prefer this as it does not take up space on the inside when empty, but I would prefer better protection for my sunglasses. The two side pockets are not external pockets but rather external access to a pocket which extends inside the main compartment. This makes the side pockets difficult to impossible to use when the backpack main compartment is full. This does not have the scan smart feature which is not a big deal to me as every time I tried to use it in airport security with my previous backpack I was told I had to remove my laptop anyway. Overall, this appears to be very well made and durable and is a very functional backpack, just not as functional as my previous backpack in my opinion.

I have to say that I only give this a 3 star rating as I have had this bag for less than a month and the lining has ripped. I have 2 other Swiss gear bags that I have been toting around while homeless through the rugged wilderness and they have held up perfectly through all elements. The only repair made to one of the bags was when my dog chewed through one of the arm straps. I do highly recommend this brand for their durability and protection of my gear and think the company will work with me for a replacement.
