Disappointed
Not sure if something changed. I had owned this cooker for many years, and finally something broke, so I had to replace. With my new rice cooker, the finished rice looks sort of discolored and pale yellow, as if it’s been on the warm setting for hours. But it juts completed its cooking time. And the grains feel a bit sof. And yes, I tried several batches, and adding additional water past the recommended level for the amount of rice used. Extremely disappointed. This was expensive. I had to go back to my other cooker (I have a few in my stock), and it cooks rice perfectly. So it is not the quality of my rice grains.

This rice cooker is worth the price. I have long forgotten how to cook rice on my stovetop because I let my Zojirushi do the work. Highly recommend, you will not regret it. Plus the music it plays at the beginning and end brings me joy.

I like how it doesn't have so much room on the inside between the underside of the lid and the outside so gunk can't build up under there. I had a different model that seemed to have a lot of space and I got worried about moisture and mold buildup, but I don't think this one will have that issue. I tried making long grain brown rice in it and it tasted good at 1 hour but overcooked when the brown rice cycle finished. I will try making it on semibrown setting and then white if that's still too long. I think the brown rice cycle is made for short grain brown rice.

Did My Homework
The lovely Wash Your Rice gentleman had this brand in a video and I know his rice has to be delicious so mine should be too. So I went through reviews and the 5 cups suited my needs best. It is easy to clean and the handle helps with storage. The directions are easy to follow. Rice is perfect everytime and the keep warm feature initiating itself after cooking is amazing. Looking forward to having this for years to come.

Highly Functional BUT With Electrical Caveat
The rice cooker works well as intended. However, the retractable electrical cable has a very strong chemical odor. Due to it being retractable, this odor does 'live' within the device. This poses a real risk for the flavor quality of the rice. I hopefully assume that product testing indicates that this is not a health risk. Be careful not to place the electrical cord near chemically sensitive objects, especially when the device is in use because the cord's rising temperature increases the odor release. This is an unfortunately unavoidable problem due to a poor choice in manufacturing materials. I suggest Zojirushi address this exceedingly trivial factor that blatantly compromises an otherwise very well designed product.
