Candle of Shame
I've always considered myself a pretty intelligent person, but this candle has made me feel very stupid. There seems to be no clear way to open the packaging, except for tearing it to little shreds. After 10 minutes of trying to unwrap the candle, I met my final opponent – a screw that no screwdriver on planet earth can unscrew. Perhaps an Allen key can do the trick? Nope! No match for the now stripped screw. I guess I'll never open the compartment.

Nancy, thanks for your honest feedback. The easiest way to remove the screw is with a number 0 or 1 Phillips screwdriver with a tip width of 2.5 mm to 3 mm. You want to make sure that the screwdriver has good edges and has not been stripped or worn down. Once you have opened the port and removed the button cell battery the product is safe for general household use, and the screw can be discarded as it isn't necessary for the device to function. If you are still having a difficult time removing the screw, there is a chance that the threaded hole for the screw was damaged on assembly or that there is debris in the threads. To remove it, you can try over-tightening the screw by turning it clockwise, and you should be able to feel it getting easier to turn. Then, place one finger on the latch over the door to the battery port, press in to disengage the lock and gently pry up on the door while turning the screw counterclockwise. Once the door is removed, remove the battery and dispose in accordance with local regulations. Place the battery port door on a surface that will not be damaged by the screw point. Put gentle downward force on the door and turn the screw head with the screwdriver counterclockwise, and the screw should start to back out of the threaded hole. Please let us know if you have other questions, and thank you for being a customer!

Hard to Get Out of Packaging
They have a great height, feel, and look BUT the packaging was way too tricky to get off. Damaged both candles in that process. I was able to angle those inperfections towards the wall though. I haven't even tried to put batteries in/turn them on yet.

Great light, color discrepencies, packaging terrible
I agree with others that the packaging is ridiculous and impossible to remove, be careful because they are waxy and will show damage. I didn't have a problem with the screw- just used a tiny screwdriver and no issues. I bought a 3 pack cream, a tall pillar cream and 2 single creams and the 2 singles are very white in color compared to the 3 pack and the tall pillar which are definitely cream. Light and flickering look real and it's nice that they all connect with one remote.

Terrible Product!
Like others, I was not able to loosen the screw. I have rheumatoid arthritis and this getting into this candle was impossible. After many, many tries, the candle finally broke and I threw it in the trash. This product needs to be redesigned for ease of use.

The reviews aren't lying about the screw!
I read the reviews before purchasing and just assumed that the people complaining about the screw on the battery compartment simply weren’t using a small enough screwdriver. I have a lot of small screwdrivers from repairing computers and other tech equipment, so I felt pretty smug. I found the appropriate size of screwdriver with a Phillips head and confidently started to remove the screw, only to discover that the screw refused to budge and quickly was stripped. It wasn’t worth my time to return an $11 candle to the store, so I resorted to using a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the battery compartment cover. The cover came off almost whole except for a tiny bit of plastic surrounding the screw. I was able to install the batteries, replace the broken cover and use the candle as intended. I’m not sure if other people will have the same luck if they try to forcefully remove the cover as I did, so I would not recommend buying this item.

Waste of money
Screw is stripped and won’t open. When we tried using a drill, the whole candle snapped in half with very little force. I should have read the reviews before purchasing in store.

mad
You need a tiny screwdriver to open up the battery compartment. I do not have this, so will need to buy one. Super annoying. Absolutely does not need this

Great candle. Terrible screws.
I really like this candle. It gives a very warm and relaxing ambiance and the timer function is perfect. However, the screw on the bottom latch for the batteries is one of the worst things I've ever dealt with. I own three of these candles. On two of the the tiny screw stripped after trying to unscrew it. I had to use an extractor tool to get them out. They're clearly very cheaply made screws, and they're not even necessary to keep the battery door shut. The candle is worth it, but just be ready to fight that screw.

Complete garbage - literally
I wish I read the reviews before purchasing these because all 3 of them went in the trash. The plastic packaging is near impossible to remove without damaging the candle itself and when you finally do get it off you'll soon realize the screws actually are impossible to remove to put batteries in. Such a waste of time and money! Absolutely WOULD NOT recommend. These candles are DEFECTIVE and should be discontinued as clearly I am not the only one who had this terrible experience.

Don't buy
There is an unnecessary screw on the battery door that can’t be removed making it impossible to put a battery in. They are unusable.

Battery impossible to insert
Couldn't put in a battery, in spite of several attempts to open the screwed down compartment. Eyeglass screws stripped the threads. Returned.

DO NOT BUY!
I wish I would have read these reviews! The screw is poor quality and impossible to unscrew without completely stripping it. I bought two candle sizes and they both were defective. The only way I could get these to operate was by prying open the casing with a flathead. The bottom will never sit flush but they work I guess.

Total garbage
Similar to others - first, if you want to save money just don’t put the screw. No screw would be better than a screw that stripped after two turns and never came out. Can’t even get the batteries in. Literally bought this less than 24 hours ago and now I’m going to either have to dig in the trash for the label I threw away or eat my $11. Save yourself, chip in the extra $10 and get one from that place that rhymes with Otteri Yarn. At least it will be usable. Affordable shouldn’t mean trash.

Not worth it!
Should’ve listened to the reviews! Screw was stripped, batteries wouldn’t fit, and candle split when trying to put batteries in. Also couldn’t do a mail in return for this item, had to do in store.
