Q: These pieces are 50 cents each when purchased individually... so half the price of this set. Or am I missing something?
A: You are correct. Also, in some places, it refers to a 5 place setting, and in the specifications it mentions 4 bowls & 4 plates. Why anyone would pay double is beyond me (unless it's more giftable?).

Q: If I cut up say, chicken breast, with a non-serrated blade on one of these plates, and of course it not being scratch resistant it bears the scars, will the plate degrade into my food?
