Mold can grow on seed starting pots, but it's generally harmless to the seedlings — it's best to decrease watering and increase airflow, you can open the vents at the top to provide extra airflow while still maintaining humidity for germination. So I actually tried to start my seeds in this biodegradable tray. Seeds did germinate quickly which was awesome. The problem is the biodegradable cells. They get moldy and retain too much water. Unless you plan to transplant your seedlings to a larger container like a week or two after they sprout, this isn’t a good idea and that makes it pretty impractical. The tray and lid cover can be reused, I’ll use the plastic cells next time that I’ve never had a mold problem with.

Since these trays are designed to naturally break down over time, they can retain more water than plastic cells. To help prevent mold, we recommend watering just enough to keep the soil moist (not soaked), placing the tray in a spot with good airflow and plenty of light, and venting or removing the humidity dome once your seedlings have sprouted to reduce excess moisture. I like that the whole tray is big and can put a lot of seedlings. But the cells that it came with absorbed a lot of moisture and got moldy. Do not use the cells it came with

Just a piece of cardboard

I didn’t buy seeds for it, I will eventually buy some and test it out. For now I give it one star because it’s not really a kit if it didn’t come with seeds to germinate.

Simple and Effective

Just put in some decent fertilizer and water. If there is excess water it comes in a tray that catches it and the plant can just absorb it later. I love this. I would definitely recommend this for beginners to the plant life.

Must Have for Plant Parents

This helps because the standard lids tend to crack from constantly pulling off and putting back on. We will be making this apart of our quarterly gardening.
