Q: will a smco100 smoke / carbon monoxide detector plug into a sc9120b base without hard wiring the new replacement?
A: Yes, the connector is the same. BUT the plastic bracket is not (the two models are just slightly different diameters).
submitted byL - 5 months agoA: this from First Alert website: The SMICO100-AC can be a direct replacement for the SC9120B as they use the same plug for installation.
submitted byemauss - 6 months agoA: Yup! I just did it and it works great.

Q: What does hardwired installation mean for this device?
A: You need to have 120 volt AC power at the point you wish to mount this. That way, even if the battery should go dead, the device is still monitoring the air.
submitted byC J S - 10 months agoA: There is a special 3-wire 120 volt connection used for power. Battery is a backup in case of power failure. If multiple units are installed, when one alarm is tripped, all units will sound an alarm.
