Q: I'm a 7th grader and I was wondering if the lead in these would retract all the way. I ask this because I've had many mechanical pencils and they said they retracted they did but when I put them in my pencil case they came open

A: Yes they do retract. If you hold down the eraser part you can push in the lead and it retracts into the lead pencil.

Q: When you say lead, do you mean actual lead or graphite?

A: All lead pencils use/are "graphite". Lead is just a term commonly used originally because of the lead color for the graphite. Graphite would probably be a better term to use by the manufacturers.

I ordered 2 boxes of these pencils with other school supplies, etc. They both arrived open with pencils spread out all over inside the box and one pencil was even opened so all the lead was missing! On top of that, it's been weeks since I ordered and target is still showing multiple pending charges on my Debit card!
