Q: Is 4.5" the usable depth (area to place objects) or the depth including the front lip and back portion? If the latter, how wide is the usable depth?

A: The lip space is 3.5 inches. It depends on what objects you decide to hold on the shelf. Many customers like to display picture frames, small trophies, or collectibles on the shelf.

Display ledge shelves
Was in hopes to have sturdy ledge shelves for my sons room so he was able to display his legos he builds. These shelves are absolutely poor quality. Very small, was expecting a wider ledge. Also the paint already has chipped in multiple places where we screwed them into the wall.not expecting these to last long at all! Very disappointed. Would not recommend at all.

Love this shelf! I would recommend this over the Threshold version because it was much more easy to install seeing as you can screw straight through the back. Some people may not like this bc the screws are left visible but it’s a shelf so they will most likely be covered up with whatever you place on the shelf. Or you could always paint the screws white after to make it less noticeable. This was much easier to install as opposed to the keyhole method on the Threshold version. I purchased this for our nursery and turned it into a makeshift shelf by drilling two holes in the bottom of the shelf and stringing a rod below to hang newborn outfits. I am so so happy with how it turned out and know it is super secure on the wall. I would highly recommend this product.

do not recommend these shelves
would not buy again. the back piece was attached to the bottom by only a thin strip of glue. came apart about 10 minutes after I opened the package. had to glue and nail it back in place but will not put anything heavy on this shelf, only small, lightweight pictures. only good thing was the finish. very smooth painted surface.
