In 2026, the rules for the iPhone 17 Pro Max are very consistent, but there is one major "trap" to avoid. 1. If you buy from the Apple Store (apple.com) Yes, it is unlocked. Whether you pay in full or use Apple Card Monthly Installments, the phone comes unlocked from Day 1. The T-Mobile/Verizon/Boost Exception: Even if you choose one of these carriers during checkout at Apple to get a special deal, the phone still arrives unlocked. The AT&T Exception: This is the only "trap." If you buy from Apple but choose AT&T Installment Plans (financing through your AT&T bill), the phone will be locked to AT&T until the device is paid off in full. 2. If you buy from a Carrier (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) No, it is usually locked. AT&T & T-Mobile: The phone is locked until you pay it off completely. For T-Mobile, this can sometimes take up to 365 days of active service. Verizon: They have a unique "60-day rule." Even if you are still paying for the phone, Verizon automatically unlocks it 60 days after activation, provided your account is in good standing. 3. If you buy from a Retailer (Best Buy, Target, Walmart) It depends on the "Flex Policy." Most iPhones sold at big-box retailers are "Reseller Flex" units. This means they are unlocked in the box, but they lock to the first SIM card (eSIM) you activate. If you want a truly unlocked phone from these stores, you must specifically buy the "Universal" or "Unactivated" model at full price. How to verify if your 17 Pro Max is unlocked: If you already have the phone in hand, you don't need to guess. Just do this: Go to Settings > General > About. Scroll down to Carrier Lock. Same Old Tricks

Like always we all love to have a new Phone, and I do. I was having a few issues with my iPhone 13 that I had had for a while. I thought I’ll get a new iPhone 17 that will help, well I set them beside each other and did the download from old one to new one, with all my contacts and apps, erased old one, sent back old one, and BAM, I have the same issues on my new iPhone that I had on my old iPhone.

Great iPhone Upgrade

Finally got a new iPhone. After decided to go with the iPhone 17 Pro Max I loved it as soon I started using the phone. The screen is very clear and big enough to navigate through the web. The pictures are also excellent. It has so much stuff, it will take me a while to get familiar with this new iPhone.

Very capable and fast with a great network!

While Apple started the smartphone and in many ways remains the leader, the 17 ProMax 256 takes some adjustments compared to previous generations. AT&T services makes it the best it can be with 5G and superb customer care!

Shower than my 15 Pro

Slower than my 15 Pro, just disappointing. After an update, my battery began to overheat and run out quicker than normal. Multiple hard tests and a complete factory reset, no help. I upgraded to the 17 Pro Max. What a disappointment. Apps take longer to open, requiring multiple refits. I’m at a loss. Apple should be ashamed.
