Description
The Bodum 8 Cup / 34oz Pour Over Coffee Maker has a fine mesh stainless steel filter that eliminates the need for paper filters. The hot water is distributed slowly and evenly over the coffee powder, allowing for a rich taste and robust aroma for a great brew. Q: What is the cuff made of? And the ties and beads?
submitted by Emmasaunt - 3 years ago
A: "Brand expert" supplied this answer calling it a french press?? Please remove that answer to prevent further confusion. Thx
submitted byCat - 1 year ago
A: This is not, as the first answer suggests, a french press. The cuff is made of cork and it seems like the strings are leather/pleather. Hope that helps!
submitted byWill - 2 years ago
A: This french press is made of stainless steel casing with a borosilicate glass carafe. This item does not contain cuffs ties or beads.

Q: Can paper filters be used in lieu of the stainless steel filter?
submitted by coffeeGUY - 4 years ago
A: I use a paper filter when I don't want any grit in my coffee. I put it on top of the mesh filter to just give it a little support, and the paper doesn't fall into the bottom when I pour the water
submitted byLazypanda - 2 years ago
A: I would use both as just the stainless steel filter still allows coffee sediment through. Don't want crunchy coffee.
submitted byDon - 3 years ago
A: Yes, you absolutely can use paper filters in lieu of the included stainless steel filter if you would like. Enjoy!
submitted byBodum - 4 years ago
Brand expert
Q: What is the little piece with three legs used for?
submitted by Cam - 4 years ago
A: The black, plastic piece with the 3 "legs" and a ball on the other end is a lid for the glass container after you remove the filter.
submitted byLee - 4 years ago
A: It fits perfectly at the neck with the legs pointing down. I guess it's for some tea or fruit infusion where bulky items don't get poured out...
submitted byStephanie - 4 years ago
A: It is to help with pouring the coffee into your mug, but honestly I didn't see a difference in pouring without it, so I threw it in recycling.
submitted byLazypanda - 2 years ago
Q: Do you need to use coarse grinds with this? Will fine grinds deep through? Also, which parts are dishwasher safe?
submitted by Coffeelover - 2 years ago
A: If you use fine grind I would also put a triangle shaped coffee filter with it to prevent the finest grounds from getting into your coffee.
submitted byLazypanda - 2 years ago
A: For an optimal brew we recommend using a medium grind (in between coarse and fine). All parts except for the cork cuff are dishwasher safe. Enjoy!

Q: Do you need a goosneck kettle for this one?
submitted by Tyler - 4 years ago
A: From my personal experience I'd recommend a gooseneck kettle. I went electctric. I was using a standard tea kettle into a Pyrex and ended up spilling the near boiling water all over my hand. Been a month now and still recovering!
submitted byJohnB - 3 years ago
A: For up to 1 hour max. The glass does not offer insulation.
submitted byRich_D - 4 years ago
Q: It would appear the term "cup" is used differently than what we would expect.
The coffee pot would need to hold 64 oz to make 8 cups.
submitted by creamofmushroomgirl - 1 year ago
A: All of the Bodum coffee and tea makers are measured in European drinking cup sizes: 1 Cup = about 4oz.

Brand expert
Q: What size paper filter fits into the steel filter, and is it cone or flat bottom?
submitted by abcd - 1 year ago
A: The included stainless steel filter ensures that the oils from the coffee can transfer to your individual cup for full flavor. A paper filter can be inserted for dual filtration, but it will absorb the oils from the coffee and subtly change the taste. The cone filter size #4 will fit.
submitted byBodum - 5 months ago

Q: Is the plastic around the stainless steel filter BPA free?
submitted by jpg6545 - 2 years ago
A: Yes, the plastic portion of the filter is, in fact, BPA Free. Enjoy!
I bought this to replace a Chemex brewer that took a tumble in the sink and shattered. I guess I didn't learn my lesson because this morning my Bodum brewer was sitting in the sink, and I knocked a pyrex full of nuts off a shelf, straight onto it. I feared the worst, but it didn't suffer so much as a chip. I had to come write a review I was so amazed. I'm still giving it four stars, just because it is kind of a budget coffee brewer, and I think other devices make better tasting coffee (Moka pot, Chemex). That said this is head and shoulders better than a drip brewer and unlike the superior-tasting brewers, still in one piece. So I love the little guy.

Not in love. This is a pretty finicky pour over, the shape of the carafe is awkward and bulbous, I’ve nearly burned myself on it. The cork and leather tie are a pain to remove and put on. The metal filter does not properly strain and leaves gritty bits in my coffee, not to mention I believe the metal filter alters the flavor. I don’t think I’ll be keeping this

It takes too much time for the coffee to be filtered into the glass container. If you make only one cup it’s not too bad but two cups takes more time & the coffee is not as hot as I prefer.

Makes decent coffee. Just use more grounds and water as there will be some grounds at the bottom of the glass. It’s more affordable than an AeroPress and other Bodum coffee products. I don’t make coffee too often. So it’s practical, especially if you have little space.

Metal filter needs paper filter on top of it
1 out of 5 stars

Filter - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
The filter does require a paper filter on top of the metal filter, not as described. First couple of times I tried with the metal filter only, ended up with a lot of coffee grounds at the bottom and water went through extremely fast. I had the coarse setting on my Bodum coffee grinder as well, didn’t seem to help.

Good coffee, perfect size for a duo of coffee drinkers. Value much better than other similar pour-over makers I've owned (which didn't even come with a reusable filter). Other reviewers have issues with disassembling to wash, but I don't take it all the way apart to clean each time (cork handle stays on), and it's fine. This plus an electric kettle is a perfect simple coffee setup.

we switched from a coffee maker to this coffee pour over. so I don't know how this one compares to other pour overs. but compared to a coffee pot, we like it SO much better! the coffee tastes better and is stronger! plus we have a small kitchen and I love how much less space the pour over needs. it looks better and is so much cleaner than the standard coffee pot. first I ordered this to be shipped, but it broke in transit. then I ordered from Shipt. so the only thing I would say is it's probably pretty fragile and I would consider not having it shipped. I read the other reviews and bought #4 cone shaped coffee filters to use with the basket.

No serious coffee brewer would use the reusable filter that comes with this pour over. The water drains way too quickly through the mesh. Not happy with this cheap feature. I will attempt to use a paper filter or coffee sock before I decide how this pour over system performs.

Great. But not for everyday use. Had to take it a part and wash and but back together like a puzzle. Also, glass wasn’t so durable. We left that the glass would break if we out too much HOT water. Safety concern !

I’d been wanting a pour over for awhile now and finally decided to buy one. I went with this over the Chemex purely due to the price difference. It works very well. I’d recommend using a paper filter with the metal one though. I ground my beans pretty coarse when using the metal filter alone and it still came out pretty gritty, but by adding the paper filter that problem was solved. If you use pre-ground coffee, I’d imagine you’d have a worse problem with the grittiness. I don’t think the taste was affected, if anything, it tasted better! I got the #4 bamboo filters and they seem to fit in the metal one just fine. (I also tried the paper filter on its own and the bottom busted out as soon as I tried to bloom the grounds, so beware of that haha.) Regardless, I’ve really enjoyed this pour over!
