A: Great question, Yoni. Our Cascade Platinum Dishwasher Cleaner is intended for use only in an empty machine. If the cleaner has been used by mistake with dishes in the cycle, then you should keep the dishes in your dishwasher and run another cycle with normal automatic dishwashing detergent. A: All our household cleaning products have been thoroughly evaluated to use in homes with septic tanks. As long as you follow the recommended amounts as directed, they will not damage your plumbing system with a properly functioning septic tank. Q: My dishwasher is at least 10 years old. Is this product safe to use in it? I use Cascade powder, I've never used a pod in it.

A: All of our detergents are safe for use in properly operating residential automatic dishwashers. This includes automatic dishwashers with older porcelain, current polypropylene and stainless steel interiors, and portable dishwashers.

Wish I would have read the other 1 star reviews. It smells horrible. I am sensitive to fragrance and this lingers badly in my machine. I have run 2 wash cycles and a vinegar rinse to try to remove the odor and it’s still there. Worse is my silicone tools have absorbed the fragrance - my egg this morning tastes like the cleaner due to the silicone spatula leaching the product into it.

We also have many quality checks in place to ensure that you can get the best possible results with our products. We wouldn't expect Cascade to impart the product taste into your dishes. However, if the soap isn't completely rinsed off, or if the dishes have become porous, it's possible. If certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous and should be washed by hand. It might help to know that cast iron and plastic items can absorb flavors. This product is amazing, I had purchased it after doing research that you needed to clean your dishwasher monthly; well I didn’t know that. And after 9 years I threw these in the washer it cleared up the dank stagnant nasty waster smell that lingered in the dishwasher and on the dish-ware. I threw my dishes out because I thought the dishes were old and needed to be replaced. Well next time I know to use these instead,

I recently moved into a new place and the dishwasher was dirty from the previous tenant, but this product did absolutely nothing. Running an empty load with Rinse dishwashing detergent did a much better job. Followed by a little Comet and elbow grease finally got it clean.

Very strong lingering artifical fragrance

While these pods may be effective in terms of cleaning mineral buildup and grease from the inside of the dishwasher, they leave behind the most intense horrible artificial scent. My whole house now smells strongly of laundry detergent. Why would anyone want their dishwasher to reek of laundry detergent?! I don’t care how effective these pods are at cleaning the dishwasher—the scent is horrible and thus I will not be using them again.

Can't stand the strong smell! Have run the dishwasher several times and the house still stinks. From reading other reviews I see that this is an ongoing complaint with the same platitudes as a response. But no changes have been made in the product.

We're here to help and would like to share that if your dishwasher has a filter, we suggest removing it and cleaning it according to the manufacturer's instructions, and then running on a sanitize cycle. Additionally, some materials, such as cast iron and plastic, can absorb odors. If certain items always pick up an odor, they could be old or worn to the point of being porous, and we'd recommend washing by hand. I would give this negative one million stars if I could. I knew it was a mistake to buy it, but I didn't think it would be an ongoing saga of how to deal with the horrible chemical stench it has left behind in our dishwasher after many many attempts to clean it. I do not wish this foul chemical floral odor on anyone.

Overpowering Smell, Lasts for days and days

We bought these to "clean out" the malodors in our dishwasher, probably from bacteria or pink slime. What we got was overpowering fragrance that persists through now 4 cycles and expect I'll be nauseated by it for at least another 4. I wish I had never used these. At this point I'd probably pay $20 just to make the fragrance stink go away.
