Description

Color OopsTM Extra Strength is the safest and most effective way to reverse an undesirable hair color application in just 20 minutes! Color Oops corrects your hair color by shrinking the dye molecules, allowing you to simply wash them away.
Our unique formula is bleach-free and ammonia-free; Color Oops will not have the damaging effects of bleach or ammonia based products. Color Oops Extra Strength is formulated to remove the most difficult colors and color build-up. Color Oops is so gentle that you can re-color your hair the same day.

Color Oops Extra Strength removes artificial color from hair that has become too dark. For instance: if your hair was blonde and you applied a brown color that is too dark, Color Oops can be used to get your hair back to a blonde shade.
Color Oops can also be used to remove artificial color from hair that was lightened but became off-tone. For instance: if you have naturally brown hair and used an ash blonde color and your hair is now blonde with a green tint, Color Oops will remove the green tint, but your hair will remain blonde.

Q: I used color oops Mon,& it did not take all the processed color out. It left it an odd orange reddish color. Im trying to go from red to my natural blonde color. How soon can I use color oops again?

submitted by Karen - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi there!!! So this particular product is for lifting color not removing it. For example: my hair is blue right now, if I use this- it will bring my deep blue to a light blue because that is the base of my hair color right now. Just like the red goes orange- because it's the base color for your red hair. As far as when to use it again, I use it same day if needed.

submitted byListie - 6 years ago
  • A: Color Oops can be used twice in a day but we suggest to wait an additional day. When coloring hair, a mixture of artificial hair color and hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) are used to deposit color into the hair. At the same time it is depositing color, the hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) can lighten the natural pigment your hair. Therefore, even though you may be coloring darker, your natural pigment may be altered. When color Oops is applied and the artificial color is removed, what is left of your natural color will be exposed. If your natural color was altered, you will see a brassy, red or warm color. In this case, you can re-color to your desired color.

Q: 1. Will this remove Joico's permanent black hair dye?? And is it okay to use if I have already used a different color remover twice?

submitted by Bella - 3 months ago
  • A: Color oops will remove it because you stated it's a permanent color. You may use it if you have already used other color removers.

Q: if I went to a salon and they dyed my hair blonde then another bright color on top so red or orange will it just remove those colors and go back to blonde ?

submitted by shay - 9 months ago
  • A: Color Oops will remove the colors as long as the colors are oxidative, meaning they were mixed with a developer. If the colors were not mixed with anything it makes them a direct dye so Color Oops will not remove them. If the color is removed you may be left with some brassiness since you are trying to remove red / orangey tones.

Q: I bleached my fiancé's hair 2 months ago then yesterday we dyed it back dark brown but it's too dark. if we put color oops on it will it strip it back to the prior blonde or just lighten the brown?

submitted by syd - 10 months ago
  • A: Color Oops will remove the color if the color was an oxidative dye. The hair should go back to blonde.

Q: I got my hair dyed a very dark brown. If I use this product.. will it make it a lighter brown?

submitted by Lindsey - 1 year ago
  • A: Color Oops is not a lightener it's a color remover. If the color you applied is an oxidative dye, meaning it was mixed with a developer then Color Oops will remove it.

Q: Can this be used to remove madison reed hair color?

submitted by gabby - 1 year ago
  • A: Color oops will remove the color as long as the color is an oxidative dye, meaning the color was mixed with developer. So if Madison Reed is an oxidative dye then Color oops will remove it.

Q: Is this safe to use on hair if I had a keratin treatment (over the hair color) 2 months ago? (I think the keratin treatment mostly washed out by now, since my hair is frizzy as ever. Can I do color oops now safely?)

submitted by S - 1 year ago
  • A: Yeah, don't do that. Go back to the stylist and tell them the color is too dark for you. You might have to wait a week or so depending on the keratin treatment, but they would probably be happy to fix the color for you.

Q: Will it remove blue, purple and pink?

submitted by Jocelynn - 1 year ago
  • A: Color Oops is formulated for use on regular oxidative hair color (hair color that was mixed with peroxide, oxide or a developer). Color Oops is not formulated for, and will not perform on direct color dyes such as bright pinks, blues, greens, lavenders, purples, etc. (A direct dye hair color is not mixed prior to use.)

Q: If I dyed my hair with the Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Nourishing Hair Color Creme, BR1 Deepest Intense Burgundy box dye would this help remove it or turn my hair more orange?

submitted by Hair dye - 1 year ago
  • A: Color Oops is formulated to remove permanent hair color. If the color you are trying to remove was mixed with a developer/peroxide then it will remove it. You might be left with orangy / brassy undertones since the color you are trying to remove is from the red family.

I touched up my roots with a red brown hair color since I have red brown lowlights. I ended up with roots that were way too red compared to my overall hair color. It looked like someone had splashed red koolaid on my head. I got this product the next day and it pulled out the red. The roots are a little too light compared to the rest of my hair so I will need to color over it, but, it looks much better than the crazy red.

I purchased this last week. I have no regrets! I had decided to use a semi-perm pink shampoo and it was adorable! Unfortunately for me, the novilty wore off pretty quickly and I wanted my blonde back. So, I researched for the safest way to ditch the pink faster. I found Color Oops! It worked exactly as stated. The one and only negative was the smell. But - we all know that the smell is at times a short term price to pay. The smell is only when using it. After you shampoo and condition - no more smell. This even lightened my dark roots which seemed a bit odd to me... but was a blessing. I had had to cancel my last haircolor appointment because I was ill. So - my roots were bad. Color Oops evened everything out! I used a platinum color depositing shampoo just like the pink I had used prior to retone until I get back to the salon on the 24th!

Works if you follow directions

Chrissy J - 22 days ago
This stuff works IF you follow the directions exactly. You should be somewhere warm while processing it, so I put a space heater in my bathroom. You do need to rinse it for 20+ minutes and shampoo it 4 times, aka the longest most boring shower ever. Most importantly, it can’t restore your to your virgin hair, only remove the color on top. So, if you used a permanent dye that lifted your natural color (and most use a developer does this, even if the color is the same or darker than your natural color) yeah, your hair will be brassy—orange or yellow undertones. Use a toner or re-dye it a cool or neutral color. Same for “temporary” dyes, Oops works better on some colors and brands than others. I’ve had good luck removing warm colors like pink, coral, red, magenta and fushia, and less success with purple and blue, though it does fade it enough to dye over it. If you bleached or lightened your hair beforehand, that’s what will now show, with some weird staining from whatever temporary color is left. Here’s my latest picture: permanent brown dye on the top half and temporary Santa red dye on highlights and bottom half. Results from two boxes of Oops on the left. My next step is a color depositing conditioner to counteract the brassiness.

Two days before using this product I had previously used Joico Color Intensity Eraser, which is NOT made for semi-permanent and permanent hair colors. That product removed about 80% of the color, but I had what looked like literal zebra stripes with sections of my hair black and other sections blonde. Therefore I decided to give this product a try to remove the remaining bit of dark brown (almost black) permanent color I had left. I should preface this review with stating that I have naturally very light blonde hair and about 3-4 months ago I had it professionally dyed a dark brown, almost black color. After following the directions exactly and allowing the product to process for 20 minutes, I washed out the product thoroughly, as stated in the directions. I rinsed, shampooed, rinsed again for 15 minutes and then shampooed and rinsed again 3 more times. After getting out of the shower, I saw no difference/improvement. I am very frustrated. Do NOT waste your money on this product.

Hi-we're sorry you did not have the experience you were looking for. There could be so many reasons why Color Oops didn't work for you. Color Oops will only remove oxidative dye meaning color that was mixed with a developer. It will not remove fantasy colors. The rinsing and the washing are very important in this whole process. Rinsing needs to be done with warmer water as cold water can cut the whole process.

Context: I had bleached/developed hair, put ION 7RC 8RC AND 6R/20vdeveloper (copper orange). Once that faded, I used 6RV/20vdeveloper (red/purple) which made me buy color oops because that was horrendous. Yeah this product smells like sulfur and eggs, but it brought my hair back to its bleached color and id say even slightly toned!! So I basically had a good canvas to re color my hair. I thoroughly washed and shampooed, yes for 20 minutes. I washed my hair again for the next two days and the smell is gone and my hair texture is fine. So yeah I'd say it works.

So I lost a whole evening reading up on reviews. I took the plunge, not expecting too much but I have been pleasantly surprised by the outcome. I have had bleach highlights for years but in July 2022, decided to go red. My stylist pre-pigmented my hair orange and then a red & brown over the top. It came out fine and held well, but was a little too dark. Over the next following few months; I tried a professional Wella gloss and a couple of home kits (more reds) so my hair had had a few layers of colour and damage! I did a strand test the day before and it lifted a shade or two. I did my whole head this morning. I’m now more a copper than the darker red so pretty pleased. I followed the steps to the letter (20 mins continuous rinse, then a further 10 with 2 extra shampoos). The smell isn’t too bad. It caught my throat initially, but got used to it. It’s just a strong perm smell and is now totally gone from my hair after the shampoos and rinsing. I followed up with an Olapex deep mask No 8 for 10 mins. My hair is a little dry but I was expecting far worse!

It was so nice for the company to give me only enough product to cover half my head. Why is it so hard for companies to provide enough product, in ONE box, to adequately coat someone’s hair. I shouldn’t have to buy several boxes. Just give me enough product in the one box. It’s so frustrating applying a product only to realize after the fact that there’s not enough to fully complete the process. What a freaking waste. I’m so sick of this always happening. So I can’t tell you if it actually works or not because I WASN’T GIVEN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT TO PROPERLY COMPLETE THE PROCESS!!!

Used a new hair dye and instead of brown - it turned black. After a week it wasn’t letting up. Used this & it washed it all out! Turned to a strawberry blonde - which I knew was gonna happen. Thank you for the feedback. We try really hard to provide a good experience for our customers through our products. Some organic low molecular weight Sulphur-containing chemicals known as Mercaptans have a strong cabbage or bad egg smell. Any Mercaptans that are trapped in the hair fiber (keratin) after rinsing will release this unpleasant smell. Very dry or porous hair is likely to hold on to these chemicals longer so will require several if not more shampoos.
