Q: I used color oops Mon,& it did not take all the processed color out. It left it an odd orange reddish color. Im trying to go from red to my natural blonde color. How soon can I use color oops again?

submitted by Karen - 9 years ago
  • A: Color Oops can be used twice in a day but we suggest to wait an additional day. When coloring hair, a mixture of artificial hair color and hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) are used to deposit color into the hair. At the same time it is depositing color, the hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) can lighten the natural pigment your hair. Therefore, even though you may be coloring darker, your natural pigment may be altered. When color Oops is applied and the artificial color is removed, what is left of your natural color will be exposed. If your natural color was altered, you will see a brassy, red or warm color. In this case, you can re-color to your desired color.

  • A: Hi there!!! So this particular product is for lifting color not removing it. For example: my hair is blue right now, if I use this- it will bring my deep blue to a light blue because that is the base of my hair color right now. Just like the red goes orange- because it's the base color for your red hair. As far as when to use it again, I use it same day if needed.

Q: Will Oops work on built up semi-permanent color? It's not washing out, as advertised.

submitted by LG - 1 month ago
  • A: No, traditional Color Oops (the kind in the red or yellow box) is not designed for and will not work on built-up, direct-dye semi-permanent colors like most bold fashion colors, which sit on the hair's surface. You may have better luck with Color Oops Bold Remover, a separate, specialized product from the same brand designed to remove direct dyes, but you must first test it on a strand of your hair to confirm it will work on your specific dye.

Q: I have dyed medium brown hair. Can I use color oops to only remove small strips of color on my hair to create highlights since my natural color is a light brown? And after that since it will most likely be brassy can I the use a purple shampoo to tone it?

submitted by Pvc - 2 months ago
  • A: You can use Color Oops to remove some dyed brown color, but it's not recommended for creating highlights or for precise, localized color removal, as it aims to remove all artificial dye in a large area and can result in unpredictable, brassy, or uneven tones rather than just highlights. You can use a purple shampoo to tone down the brassiness afterward, but it's advisable to consult a professional stylist for a controlled highlight application to achieve your desired look safely.

Q: I dyed my hair copper at a salon. Then touch up my hair and my hair ended up looking auburn red. Will this product remove the auburn to help me return to copper hair?

submitted by Cristal - 3 months ago
  • A: Yes, Color Oops can help remove the auburn color and potentially allow you to return to a copper shade. Color Oops is designed to remove permanent oxidative hair color, which is what you likely used when you initially dyed your hair copper and when you touched it up. It works by shrinking the dye molecules, allowing you to wash them away.

Q: I just used it, rinsed and shampooed for the recommended amount, and my hair and bathroom smell AWFUL. How do I resolve?

submitted by Ashley - 5 months ago
  • A: Some organic low molecular weight sulphur-containing chemicals known as Mercaptans have a strong cabbage or bad egg smell. Any Mercaptans that are trapped in the hair fibre (keratin) after rinsing will release this unpleasant smell. Very dry or porous hair is likely to hold on to these chemicals longer so will require several if not more shampoos. In order to remove a persistent odor that has remained in the hair simply wash the hair with the following mixture. Mix 10% of a water soluble bicarbonate/carbonate salt with 90% water and leave on the hair for 5 to 10 minutes. Then without rinsing apply an acid-based solution to acidify the hair, such as 5% white vinegar (acetic acid) or 5% lemon juice (citric acid) mixed with 95% water. Leave this solution on the hair for a further 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse off. This procedure will produce a carbon dioxide gas which will remove the chemicals that cause the odor. Then finish with a pleasant shampoo and condition as usual.

    Give it a try!

My hairdresser thought a dark ganache brunette would look great on me from my years of balayage. $200 later I looked like Wednesday Addams. I tried to live with the change but decided to try this product because I couldn't stand the dark hair on my extremely pale skin. It turned out great! My hair is this beautiful shade of brown and has the old dimension it use to have. Everything is very even and in no way looks like I experimented at home. The smell was pretty bad. I did place a head towel over the plastic wrap that was included to keep heat in better.

This product does not work. It is very time consuming. It could have been user error, however it is unrealistic to expect someone to rinse and shampoo for that long. Not happy with my purchase.

    Smells like corpse

When they say this smells it smells it has the same fragrance scientifically As a rotting corpse it will take 3 weeks of using vinegar, baking soda, dawn dish soap and clarifying shampoo to even get the smell toned down and the second u think it’s gone if u swear or it gets wet that smell is back and it’s not in your head everyone smells it pls tell me if u know a better way and it doesn’t even remove color

The notoriously bad odor from Color Oops is caused by sodium hydrosulfite, the active ingredient that shrinks artificial hair dye molecules. Many users report that insufficient rinsing is the main reason the smell lingers, because small dye molecules are left behind. The smell can often be reactivated by sweat or water for weeks or months afterward. While the DIY methods you have tried work for some, others find the smell remains. To finally eliminate the odor, you must get the lingering dye molecules and chemicals out of your hair's porous shaft. Use a clarifying shampoo or, if necessary, Dawn dish soap as a last resort. Dawn is highly effective but can be very drying. Rinse with the hottest water you can tolerate to help open the hair cuticle and release trapped particles. Rinse for an extended time. After the intense washing and rinsing, use a powerful odor-absorbing hair mask to neutralize and absorb the odor.

I bought this yesterday and just used it last night made my hole face and torso break out into a rash
1 reply from Developlus Customer Service team - 15 days ago
We're sorry to hear about your experience with Color Oops. Your skin rash after using Color Oops Extra Strength is likely an allergic reaction, most commonly from the ingredient sodium hydrosulfite. A severe or spreading rash requires immediate medical attention. For milder cases, there are over-the-counter remedies and self-care steps you can take. Rinse the affected areas immediately with plenty of cool or lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. This can help remove any remaining chemical irritants from your skin. In the future, before using a new hair product, always perform a patch test on a small, discreet area of your skin, such as behind your ear or on the inside of your elbow. Wait at least 48 hours to check for any redness, swelling, or irritation.

DO NOT BUY!! DOES NOT WORK!!

I bought the product less than a week ago and just used and i am serverely upset!! Before using the product I had semi-permant die in my hair, it was faint. 80% of my hair was pink with 20% being my bangs that were colored blue. I used the product very carefully and as directed. I washed it out, shampooed my hair 4 times and its blue!! The blue and the pink turned the same blue after using the color remover. I highly recommending to never buy this product or this company's product.

    Beyond my wildest hopes

I had low expectations, but it perfectly restored my unique light brown hair color. I had been dying it black for two years many times reapplying over the whole head (permanent dye only). I followed the instructions to the T even though they are more extensive than any hair product I’ve used. The bottom stayed a bit darker which makes sense to me because it’s what I redyed most. I expected that color remover was likely going to leave me in a state of wackiness, but when my hair came out almost perfect, I decided not to go in with the red/lightner color because I can just maintain my natural hair at this point which I missed.Hair remains undamaged. Sent of product is strong and strange but one million times worth it in my book. Looking forward to it fading though.

    Purchased 2x!

I purchased this 10 years ago for an accidental all over dark purple color and loved it. Just re-purchased again today to remove “dark brown” that turned out completely black on me. The color turned out great and much more natural than the black - what I was looking for with my original color. Yes it smells. And rinsing for 20 minutes is not for the weak. But it does work.
