Q: I used color oops Mon,& it did not take all the processed color out. It left it an odd orange reddish color. Im trying to go from red to my natural blonde color. How soon can I use color oops again?

submitted by Karen - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi there!!! So this particular product is for lifting color not removing it. For example: my hair is blue right now, if I use this- it will bring my deep blue to a light blue because that is the base of my hair color right now. Just like the red goes orange- because it's the base color for your red hair. As far as when to use it again, I use it same day if needed.

submitted byListie - 7 years ago
  • A: Color Oops can be used twice in a day but we suggest to wait an additional day. When coloring hair, a mixture of artificial hair color and hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) are used to deposit color into the hair. At the same time it is depositing color, the hydrogen peroxide (oxide/developer) can lighten the natural pigment your hair. Therefore, even though you may be coloring darker, your natural pigment may be altered. When color Oops is applied and the artificial color is removed, what is left of your natural color will be exposed. If your natural color was altered, you will see a brassy, red or warm color. In this case, you can re-color to your desired color.

Q: i recently dyed my hair black on bleached hair and regret it. will this remove all the black and bring back the bleached blonde hair I had?

submitted by Penny - 6 months ago
  • A: When removing the black from your hair, color oops will not bring your blonde hair back since it has been compromised with the black color. Once the color is removed you will be left with brassy undertones.

Q: if I went to a salon and they dyed my hair blonde then another bright color on top so red or orange will it just remove those colors and go back to blonde ?

submitted by shay - 2 years ago
  • A: Color Oops will remove the colors as long as the colors are oxidative, meaning they were mixed with a developer. If the colors were not mixed with anything it makes them a direct dye so Color Oops will not remove them. If the color is removed you may be left with some brassiness since you are trying to remove red / orangey tones.

Q: I bleached my fiancé's hair 2 months ago then yesterday we dyed it back dark brown but it's too dark. if we put color oops on it will it strip it back to the prior blonde or just lighten the brown?

submitted by syd - 2 years ago

submitted by Lindsey - 2 years ago

This product worked so well. I put a bright auburn dye one my locs and my hair was previously dye blonde. I instantly regretted it and missed my blonde so I picked this up from Target hair with my hair still wet. As soon as I put it on within minutes I could see it lifting and my locs changing back to the blonde I had. I definitely recommend if you’re trying your remove red dye.

If you have black or dark hair i do not recommend this is my first time using color oops, i knew i wasnt going to go back to natural but it barely lifted any color. I went from black to a dark reddish color. I would definitely recommend using someone else. My hair is healthy dull but isn’t going to help lift your hair color at all. It also stinks terribly, I would be okay with the smell if it worked, but i washed it about 20 times and it still smells like rotten eggs. It may be good if you have lighter hair, but for me was not the case.

Does What it is Designed to Do

This product works very well if you understand what it actually does. It states on the box that it is made to remove regular oxidative hair dye, not direct deposit color. So if you bleached your hair and then dyed it blue or purple or something like that, this isn’t going to work (or at least, not well). If you dyed your hair brown, black, copper, etc, this will work, BUT if the dye lightened your natural hair color in the process, it’s not going to go back to your natural color, it’s going to go back to what it was lightened to. See my photos for reference. I have naturally brown hair. I died it copper and it had faded to a reddish brown. I used Color Oops and it removed the red tones from my hair (you can see my dark natural roots under my hair in the “after” photo). For the smell, yes, it does have a sulfuric smell to it, but I think some of the reviews are greatly exaggerated (or those people have VERY sensitive noses). I would compare the smell to a hard boiled egg that may have been sitting around a little too long. It wasn’t overpowering and I was able to use the product in a small apartment comfortably. It lingered a little bit, but aired out naturally. TL,DR: Read the box, follow the instructions to the letter, and have realistic expectations and this product will work very well.

Black square: original hair, grey heart: after dye, white square: after using color off I had tried to dye my hair a dark blonde/light brown color over my lightened hair, but the color fill I used was way too red and made my end result look super auburn. Used this product the next day (needed two boxes b/c my hair is long and thick) and it brought me much closer to my original hair color. It still has a reddish tint (kinda looks strawberry blonde) but I like it. Make sure to follow the instructions EXACTLY, especially the rinsing portion. Some tips I used from other reviews were using a clarifying shampoo during the rinse and putting a towel over my shower cap during the processing to trap more heat. Something to note is that it did lighten my natural roots to a strawberry/light copper color. Luckily it blends in with the color of the rest of my hair, but it’s something to be aware of if you have any virgin hair.

Colored my hair & it accidentally deposited to a legit blue black color. I then bought color oops. I used 2 boxes of color oops, and I have medium hair to my shoulders. Buy an extra Box just in case - you have to saturate it for it to work - (Pro tip: use a blow dryer when your hair is processing in the cap. HEAT=BETTER RESULTS- I shampooed a couple times between rinsing you HAVE to rinse it for at least 18 mins with hot water! as hot as you can stand it! This rinses all the artificial color out) This worked so good please try this first and not bleach. My hair came out so even and I was able to re color it to a lighter brown color the same day. My hair feels great too not even that dry 10/10 recommend!!!!!

This works! I had red hair, I’ll post pics of before and after. It’s important to rinse your hair as long as it says. I had blonde hair before the red and after one use you can see bits of the blonde. Before use I had vibrant red hair, i found the best pic I could to show the red I had right before use. Big difference!

Going from dark Asian hair to light brown, I tried this product and noticed no difference. If anything it made my hair a little lighter, which is the opposite of how I wanted it go. I’m very disappointed in the product and would not recommend it. It didn’t come with gloves nor a cap, despite being needed.

Apparently this needs to be said again: this does not return your hair to its NATURAL COLOR! That color is already gone via the lifting that occurs during the permanent dying process or with bleach. If you want to be able to return to your natural color after dying it, do not use permanent colors or bleach because that’s just simply not how they work! That being said, this will remove the added permanent colors and take it to its underlying lifted state which will be orange or yellow. That is the goal. You are meant to add color back in after the removal. (However the orange shade you can end up with is actually the best way to get the most natural copper/strawberry blonde color, which is notoriously difficult to replicate with dye!) I have used this multiple times. During the first go I did not take the additional 3 rinses seriously thinking the 20 minute one was enough and some redarkening occurred. Every time since I have followed the instructions to the letter and that hasn’t happened again. During my most recent use I used a clarifying shampoo during and a protein conditioner after. The clarifying shampoo seems to have helped get even deeper color removal as it in no way tries to protect or help your hair like all other shampoos do and just focuses on stripping your hair thus allowing more color particles to be washed out. I wish I had known to use it before! My hair was previously bleached and I had struggled to get it toned just right before giving up and trying other colors. I was shocked to find that after using this this time that it was the closest Ive gotten to what I had been trying to get so far! I assume I had lingering brassy golden hues that needed to be totally removed and could not be toned over. With purple shampoo and conditioner I don’t need to do anything else to it this time which I did not expect!

It didn't really work at all. It almost looked like I colored it one shade different, but it didn't seem like it was one shade in the direction of removing the dye. It kinda burned when it got onto my skin. You.also have to rinse your hair for 20+ minutes!!! Even after doing that and shampooing my hair 10x times, my hair still smells like the stuff. Yuck. And lastly, it dries your hair out. Overall, it didn't work so save your money and hair since it's probably really bad for your hair.
