As well, we've made no changes to the formula. If you live in area with hard water, you may have to use more dishwashing liquid. Another cause of dishwashing liquid not cleaning effectively is the water temperature being too low. Water should be 105 to 115°F (40.56 to 46.11°C). We hope this information is helpful, and your comments will be passed along. We do recommend that you discontinue use of this particular product if this has been your experience, and we suggest giving another Dawn version a try. To remove the scent from your dishes, soak the items in hot water with some distilled white vinegar added to it, or if they're dishwasher safe, pour some vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher and directly into the dispenser, then run them through the machine. It may take a couple of cycles, but the smell will come out. Additionally, you can rewash your hands with mild hand soap to remove the scent.
