Q: How large is the actual opening? I am thinking to use this for cat litter disposal, and wonder what size scoop would be able to push open the flap to dump clumps into bag.

A: They came out with one for cats called the litter genie

As an alternative we do have a cat litter disposal system that was created specifically for cats. A: We have only tested the Diaper Genie pails for newborn diaper usage. The Diaper Genie Classic can hold up to 55 new born diapers.

All diaper genie is, is an overly complicated mini trash can with over priced trash bags. Doesn't barely contain the smell anymore than a regular trash can that ultimately costs half the price. Save your money and don't bother.
