Warranty Trap – Avoid This Controller hi
I bought this controller in February 2025, and by August 2025 it had already stopped working properly. That’s less than 6 months of use before it became defective. Normally, I’d just file a warranty claim since it’s covered for a year. But here’s the catch: in order for Sony to honor the warranty, you must provide the model and serial number printed on the back of the controller. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The numbers are printed so faintly and in such poor contrast that they’re essentially unreadable. It’s like Sony designed them to fade or be illegible over time. Without those numbers, Sony flat-out refuses to honor the warranty—even though they know when and where the controller was purchased. So you’re stuck with a useless piece of plastic that they won’t repair or replace. This is a classic warranty loophole, and it feels deliberate. If the manufacturer truly stood by their product, they wouldn’t hide behind unreadable serial numbers. Bottom line: Don’t waste your money. If you absolutely must buy one, get a white controller—the text is at least somewhat easier to see. But honestly, I’d look elsewhere. A controller that fails this quickly and comes with a warranty that’s practically impossible to use is not worth your time or money.
