Q: What is necessary for the unit to work with an electric outlet?

A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about GPX® Portable Cassette Player with AM/FM Radio, Red and Black, CA337B. To operate the GPX Portable Cassette Player with AM/FM Radio (model CA337B) using an electric outlet, you need to purchase a compatible AC/DC power adapter. The unit itself does not come with the adapter in the box. It's designed to be powered either by batteries (2 AA batteries, not included) or an external power adapter. The user manual and product specifications state that the cassette player requires an AC/DC power adapter that provides a DC power input of 4.5V. You will need to make sure the adapter you purchase has a compatible plug and the correct voltage to avoid damaging the unit. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My grandfather passed and left behind a ton blues, jazz, swing and Motown cassette tapes along with a pretty decent stereo set. I wanted something to listen to it on the go and found this player and I don’t regret this purchase at all. It has a built in speaker, headphone jack, am/fm frequency for local radio and it even has a record button. I’m honestly surprised with the quality, well worth it.
