Q: can i use this for grater too?

submitted by sava - 8 years ago
  • A: No, you can't, but it's kind of similar.

submitted byAno - 8 years ago
  • A: yes. There is a separate shredding disk that works super fast and does a great job. If you turn the disk over, you can use it for slicing but in my experience it doesn't do a uniform job. This machine is fantastic for the price.

submitted bysweetbee - 8 years ago
  • A: Depending on what you are grating it may be used as a grater. A hard type of cheese would work but using a softer type probably wouldn't

Q: Does this processor work for blending ice and frozen fruit?

submitted by Stephanie - 7 years ago
  • A: What can it do then? Lol

submitted byBianca Borris - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. We do not recommend that this appliance is used to blend ice or frozen fruit. For best results, we would recommend a Hamilton Beach blender.

Q: Would this be able to make peanut/almond butters? Is it strong enough/would the motor burn out?

submitted by HarlemPants - 8 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Nut butters can be made successfully in food processors. However, the thick mixtures can challenge the motors of small food processors. For food processors of this size and motor type, we would recommend using roasted nuts verses raw nuts. Roasting draws moisture out of the nuts so the dryer nuts slice quicker. This allows the oils to be extracted and blended into a nut butter faster with less stress on the motor. Quantity of nuts will also affect the amount of processing time. We recommend processing no more than 3 cups of nuts at a time. If making nut butters is a primary task that you would like to use a food processor for, consider selecting a food processor with a more robust motor that can handle the tougher jobs.

Q: Can this turn frozen freeze pops into slushy drinks?

submitted by MetroBOS - 8 years ago
  • A: Never tried it, but you would need to do trial and error. Maybe start with ice cubes and see what you get. Then dial it down for freeze pops.

submitted bybkr - 8 years ago
  • A: No, this is for food processing and is not designed to chop ice. If the freeze pop was softened first it might work but anything too hard will hurt the appliance.

I bought this to replace a Cusinart food processor. Yes, that's right. It worked fine but was SO heavy. I'm elderly and find I don't have the strength in my hand like I used to. This food processor is lightweight, but does the job perfectly. It chops and has a disk for shredding or slicing. So glad I got this one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First off, let me say this is the loudest food processor I have used. That being said, it is also the best one I have used in getting creamy puree, shredding cheese, etc... I have owned several food processors and I can honestly say this one is by far the best for my needs. I shred blocks of cheese instead of buying pre-shredded and this does it quickly. The feed chute is not as large as my previous processor, so I do have to cut my chunks smaller to feed into chute, but not a deal breaker. What absolutely sold me was making hummus. I make it maybe once a month, and this was the creamiest it has EVER been! I was shocked! I just used canned chick peas and the skins disappered, which has never happened before when I have made it. I also like how the blade and disc store together in the actual processor. It's way more convient for me. The knobs are taking some adjustment for me, I am used to a push button style, but not a big deal. I hope this one lasts me a while, I use it multiple times a week. So far very pleased.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This food processor is pretty easy to use, easy to clean, and has versatile settings. It works great for cutting up vegetables, fruits, cheese, and more much faster than the old school method. It is safer than using a mandolin slicer, as well. It isn't super loud, it doesn't bother my dog but does frighten cats if they're nearby.

Love the stainless steel slice & shred disc and chopping blade. Its very powerful 450 watt motor makes it powerful. Makes life so much easier when preparing food. LARGE FEED CHUTE: Can fit large foods like a whole block of cheese. Definitely a plus when you need to grate a lot of cheese. My favorite it makes pureeing pestos and dips so much easier and less time! I love this food processor! It’s made my life easier and saves me time. You won’t regret this purchase! A big plus this processor parts are dishwasher safe, bowl, lid & blades.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just love this amazing powerful food processor!!! I had a smaller one for many years and didn’t realize how inadequate it was. This one has many great features and is very easy to use. It is 8 cups and large enough for every job. One of the nice features is you can put whole stalks of celery, carrots, or your favorite vegetable and it chops it all up so quickly. If you need to push the vegetables down, there is an attachment for that. Previously I had to precut celery so it would fit in my processor. This is so easy and fast! Not only does it do the regular chopping, but it has a removable blade to shred AND slice food. I made my hubby’s favorite dinner – beef roll ups – which require chopped celery and onions. I was amazed how fast it chopped them up for me. Just a couple spins and done. I like that it has different speeds as well. The suction cup type feet keep it from moving while you are using it. It is easy to clean and can be put in the dishwasher. It is compact and fits nicely in my cabinet. I am so happy I got this Hamilton Beach Food Processor. It saves me time and makes my life easier.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this food processor! We eat a lot of coleslaw and I used to use a hand held grater. No more! This Hamilton Beach food processor makes coleslaw faster and better with the shredding disk. There is less cabbage waste and my hand never comes in contact with anything sharp when processing the coleslaw. I also use the food processor to chop onions and I love this feature! There is less handling and safer than holding and cutting the onion by hand. I also use the bowel to store the chopped onions in the fridge until it is time to use them in what I am making. I eat salads often and use the food processor to chop carrots, celery, and onions. The feet are like suction cups so the food processor stays put when I am using it. Clean up is easy and all the parts are dishwasher safe, not the base. Be careful washing the chopping blade and shredder/slicing blade by hand, they are sharp.

It shreds carrots and cabbage like a breeze and mixes up dough and sauces so easily,I feel spoiled. It it VERY easy to use, very easy to disassemble and clean, and easy to put back together. I am very pleased with how it works and I look forward to using it for many recipes. If you have ever looked for a food processor that "does it all", this is it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had this food processor for about ten days. I have used it three times, once for slicing radishes. The other two times were grating carrots and radishes for soup. The processor is very easy to use and is much lighter than its bulk would indicate. I assume that is why the suction cups are on the bottom, to keep it for moving when in use. Very effective. This unit is certainly powerful enough for home use and makes quick work of all the tasks I have used it for. It is also easy to clean, even if it is a bit bulky. I would however, like to see additional discs for slicing and grating for thicker results.

I didn’t get to test it for sale yet, but I did use it to grate cheese and WOW. I have a hand crank cheese grater and this machine puts that to shame! Product was packaged well and all pieces were included. Assembly was very easy, as were the instructions. It was pretty much just plug and go and I really enjoy that. I was able to grate a block of cheese very quickly. Clean up is also a breeze!

I made the mistake of putting too much in and it got everywhere, even under the processing cup! Also, I would not recommend making mashed potatoes in it. They come out like glue paste. They literally snap back! Other than that - awesome product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose to put this Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Food Processor through its paces prepping vegetables for a batch of meatball stew for Sunday dinner. I skimmed through the English section of the trilingual (English/French/Spanish) manual first, but did not wash any of the parts before first use; that was not a problem, though, as I did not notice any smells from manufacturing residue while using this device. I first set up the FP with the chopping blade, and turned 3 mini bell peppers (halved & deseeded) into salsa-size bits with only 3 pulses (2 would probably have sufficed). After emptying the chopped/minced peppers into the bowl of my pressure cooker, I then switched to the Shred side of the shredding/slicing blade, and quickly shredded a baby carrot and a small potato (peeled). After adding the shredded veggies to the pressure cooker, I finally switched to the Slice side of the shredding/slicing blade, and sliced a stalk of celery, baby carrot, and peeled small potato (1st batch) and 3/8 of a large yellow onion (2nd batch; onion was peeled & cut into 8 wedges). After all of the parts were washed, I followed the manual's instructions on how to assemble the FP for storage, and it fit nicely into the same cupboard as my blender. Did I truly need to use the food processor to prep all of those veggies? Not really, BUT it would have taken far longer with the knife, manual chopper and mandouline I would have used otherwise, and I probably would have cut corners and used mostly pre-chopped and canned veggies instead. The processor does its job VERY quickly, and I never needed to use the "2" (high speed) setting. The manual does warn users not to attempt kneading bread dough in this food processor (not an issue for me, since I own a bread machine); bread bakers needing a FP for kneading dough will want to look for a more powerful model. The Shred/Slice labels on the shredding/slicing blade are in English only; hopefully the French & Spanish sections of the manual advise users on which side of the blade is which. This Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Food Processor is neither the largest-capacity nor the most powerful food processor available; however, it is quite adequate for everyday chopping, slicing and shredding. The compact storage feature makes it possible to keep this FP stowed away for occasional users, although certainly more frequent users with the counter space for it should have no problem finding room on the counter for it, as it is a relatively compact full-size food processor. If your food processing needs outstrip what manual devices or a mini-chopper can handle, this Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Food Processor would be a great model to consider. Recommended.
