Artificial taste

1 out of 5 stars
Judy O. - 1 month ago

I consider myself a chocoholic, have always loved the taste of chocolate. After being diagnosed with t2 diabetes I missed my limitations on chocolate the most. When I first tried Hershey's Lite syrup I was so happy it still tasted like regular Hershey's chocolate syrup but had less sugar. I had been buying it ever since until I couldn't find it anymore. Sugar free doesn't have that true chocolate taste anymore. I would rather skip the syrup completely than eat something that tastes artificial. If I'm going to squeeze some chocolate into my low carb diet, I want it to have a true satisfying chocolate taste. Please bring back Hershey's Lite chocolate syrup for all us chocolate lovers who are watching our diets but still want to eat something that tastes good. It was a good happy medium.

I'm done with Hershey's

I tried this in hopes of ditching the HFCS in regular Hersheys syrup. It was so horribly disgusting, I couldn't swallow the small bite I tried. It was immediately spit out & I felt like I was poisoned. I looked up reviews afterwards & learned Hershey has been recently sued for having heavy metals in their dark chocolate. So, there's no telling what they put in the zero sugar. No more Hershey product for me, EVER ... it's that bad.
1 reply from Consumer Relations team - 2 months ago
We appreciate the honest feedback, Amanda. As you may know, high fructose corn syrup has many functions that help improve qualities of food and beverages, which is why we currently use it in some of our products. In addition to enhancing the flavor of foods and beverages, high fructose corn syrup also provides shelf stability, promotes browning in baked goods, improves texture, and helps protect and preserve food longer. Regardless, we’d like to assure you that as a consumer-centric company, The Hershey Company continually looks to meet the needs of its customers and consumers. One of the things we are actively exploring is replacing high-fructose corn syrup with sugar in some products. This work is just underway and we do not have a timeframe established. However, our aim is to be transparent with our consumers about the ingredients we use in our products.

Was thankful to find sugar free chocolate syrup - very helpful for diabetics. Taste is passable BUT will not mix into milk. Stay separated! This is very strange.

Works for Me

I just tried this for the first time less than 10 minutes ago. I had a completely open mind, with equal measures of hope and trepidation. I just mixed it in with milk and drank. The verdict? While no one could EVER confuse the taste of this with regular Hershey's syrup, it nonetheless WAS what I was looking for: Namely, a way to attack my hankering for a bit of chocolate without loading up on calories. It was somewhat reminiscent of a dark chocolate, and while I normally am not a huge fan of the dark stuff, if my choice is between a dark chocolate and no chocolate, I'm game.

Taste just like dark bakers chocolate

For starters it’s obvious by reading reviews people don’t know what pure chocolate really tastes like. There is no sweetness to real chocolate at all. This zero sugar syrup hit the Pree sweetened flavor perfectly. Just add a little sugar if you want to cut the bitter.

I forgot how bad this is

I bought a bottle of this a while back and hated it. It had a sour flavor like it had spoiled, and it didn’t taste like chocolate at all. I had to check the bottle just to make sure it wasn’t past the use by date, and it wasn’t even close to expired. So I threw it away after only using it one time. Fast forward to yesterday and I saw it on the grocery shelf again. I forgot all about trying it before and being completely disappointed. I bought it again anticipating normal Hershey goodness. After one bite of my ice cream with the syrup on top I immediately remembered that I had made this mistake before. I still don’t know what it tastes like, but it is awful and cannot be described as chocolate syrup. Sorry Hershey, I want to love this product like everything else you make. But this is bad

The sugar free syrup has a horrible sour flavor. In no way does this taste like chocolate. It’s immediately a bitter taste that makes anything it’s added to inedible.

I’m giving this syrup 5 stars for tasting great with coffee or milk. If I want to add extra sweetness I add a little Truvia to the mix. I would not recommend this syrup for a chocolate sundae, however.

As Good As Any Other, Thus Far

3 out of 5 stars
Citrus - 5 months ago
It's just as thick as, if not thicker than, the original Hershey's chocolate syrup. The strength of the chocolate flavor isn't as strong as the original. I am keto so this would be good enough for coffee or ice cream if, it wasn't so expensive, and you have to pour more if you want to really taste the chocolate flavor.

I have tried this a few times over the years and it is disgusting. Tastes like chemicals. There used to be a “Lite” syrup that was infinitely better than this atrocity. Please bring back the Lite one, I had to just throw this one away I can’t even tolerate it.

Excellent Dessert Topping

I pour some directly on top of peanut butter. It's like eating a Reeses Peanut Butter cup! It has the same exact taste. It's a quick dessert idea, instead of eating cake or candy. I like that this product has no added sugar, yet it's sweet because of the added artificial sweetener. It's the reason I bought it (no added sugar).
