Q: The fan I bought today keeps stopping spin and starting on its own — the blades stop spinning, then start again shortly after, and it keeps repeating like that. Is this normal?
A: I just bought this fan. The stop/start is the sleep mode. Not at all impressed with this product and will be returning.

A: My remote required 2 AAA batteries. They are not included.

The Holmes 18" Digital Oscillating Stand Fan is generally considered to operate quietly, especially when compared to many other fans. It has three speed settings, and on lower speeds, it is usually quite quiet, making it suitable for bedrooms or other areas where noise might be a concern. On higher speeds, while it still tends to be quieter than many fans of similar size, it will be a bit more noticeable. If you're looking for a very silent operation, setting it on the lower speed would likely be your best option.

Q: Are there functional buttons on the unit or is the remote control required for operation?
A: The "buttons" on the unit are not physical buttons, but touch sensitive, and so ridiculously hard to get to activate that there might as well not even be buttons on the unit itself.
