Q: It says snap the top and bottom parts together. They don't snap together one just sits on the other. When filling with water one just floats. How do you snap them together
submitted by DDB - 5 years ago
A: Houdini Ice Sphere Mold - The silicone molds do fit snugly together, there are no snap features (click sound or otherwise).
Please see images on target.com to help show how the product fits together when filled and the separated molds. Cheers!

Skip this overpriced hassle
This mold is so annoying and overpriced! It's a thin silicone mold that you have to fill via small holes in the top. We used a plastic baggy with a hole in the end. You will need two people to complete this way unfortunately. A small would have been nice if included. Just pass and find something else.

Smaller than I thought they’d be and still a bit difficult to get the ice out despite the flexible silicone but not bad, gets the job done

Dont waste your money.
These don’t work. The water slips between the molds and overflows. Waste of money.

Bad material
I noticed the ice container caused the ice balls to have an oily substance when they thawed out. Try a different brand.

They work just filled the lid with water
They work. Photo is my first try. People complain that the two halfs separate so after carefully filling the balls through the small holes I added some water to the top to add weight to the lid and it worked. You still have to be very careful when loading it into your freezer. Mines came out with a little excess on the sides but they break easily making the balls almost perfect. Can’t beat it for the price

Too floppy to work properly.
Lid and base did not fit together. One side was floppy and didn't form a seal. It's in the freezer now let's see if it makes a sphere by tomorrow. Leaked everywhere trying to get it in the freezer. Required a very flat spot to sit and the drawer action of my freezer likely means it's all over the bottom. Hopefully I don't wake up to a huge mess. I have little faith in this.

Not what you'd think
Hard to fill without spilling. Rarely do you get complete spheres. Mostly split in half when removing. Also seems to leave a film on top of beverage when poured over this ice. I know it's not my water, never had this issue with any other ice.

Box directions failed, had to improvise to make work
Unless you fill the top with water or have another way to weight it down the top piece just floats making it nonfunctional. The directions say to clip the top into place on the bottom however there is no notches or anything that might behave like a clip. After a good does of frustration and yelling I decided to see if filling the top piece with water would provide enough weight to keep the top piece in place when filled with water. And luckily that did the trick otherwise these would have been returned. So please keep that in mind when purchasing.

Do not waste your money
Top tray floats when water is added to more than one sphere. Spheres can’t freeze solid and break apart when mold is separated. Threw away the packaging or I would return.

Quality silicone but does not work well
As others have stated, the two pieces to do "snap" together as the instructions say. When you start filling one, the other three also fill because the top and bottom come apart. If you can keep them sort of together then you get ice balls, but they are not clean spheres. I guess I'll have to spend more money to get something that actually works as advertised.

Leaves a residue
The spheres are a good size but the mold itself leave a weird residue? Not sure if it’s just me but even after a few washes it looks like flakes almost.

Look for something else
As others have said this product would have benefited from having clips on the ends because when you start filling the holes the top and bottom drift apart from each other. This even happens with a funnel. But if you figure that out you will have spheres of ice which is nice. My issue with it is the product has an odd smell that hasn’t gone away since I purchased it. I wouldn’t buy it again but it works in a pinch
