Q: Should Brita filtered water read between 50-250 on a TDS water meter tester? I purchased a new Brita pitcher with filter and the three times filtered water is reading 471, the tab water reads 528.

Q: I used an elite filter for the firt time and after only 3 weeks the light is red indicating it is time to change the filter. I thought it was supposed to last about 6 months. Is this wrong?

  • A: We're sorry about the timer on our Tahoe Pitcher, Terry, and we're happy to offer these troubleshooting steps: 1. Take a look at your pitcher to determine where the indicator is located. 2. If the indicator is on the top of your pitcher’s lid: 3. Press and hold down the STATUS button. Hold it there for 2 seconds if you’re using a white filter or 6 seconds if you have a blue (Elite) filter. 4. Release the button when the green light next to your filter icon flashes three times by itself. If the indicator is on the underside of your pitcher’s lid: Under the icon for your filter type, press and hold down the reset button for 5 seconds. Release the button when the light flashes three times. On older models: Press the Reset button firmly for 5 seconds. If needed, use a capped ballpoint pen. We hope this works out for you.     Pleased with the filtered water system but the filter indicator quits working after two years or so. Second pitcher just stopped working. True, you can keep manual track of the filter age but that defeats a main convenience feature of the system. Brita should make the indicator battery user replaceable or lower the price since it turns disposable so soon.

    Mold started growing on filter within 3 months and I never noticed it until recently. Make sure you check your filter and vent on the bottom and clean with vinegar and soap

    The pitcher started to crack right after 3 months. The sensor also stopped working. The sensor at the tip of the pitcher can lead to having 3 streams of water instead of one if not being careful when puring a full pitcher. We had other Brita pitchers that lasted years and were a lot better built and never had any problems like this. This one was really bad.

    Had an old style from years ago, bought a new one a couple years back. They work great, makes my coffee taste great. Now, the filter change indicator, that lights a small plastic "light transmitter" just behind the spout, has failed, & blinks red/green, every few seconds. I can't find a replacement, anywhere on line. It just keeps blinking red/green, now, for 3 days or so.

    I bought this pitcher less than 4 months ago. The "SmartLight filter indicator," began to show trouble at about 3 months, and currently has completely stopped working. This is the second Brita for our family. The first was a model no longer in production. That one lasted over 5 years, which lead us to purchase a newer model. Now we are stuck with a not so smart choice!
