Q: I have had my Brita for 18 months, replacing the filter every 4-6 months. The green light has stopped working, regardless of how long I press it.
What is the life time of the brita per usual usage?
submitted by gonzalo sabogal - 1 year ago
A: Hi Gonzalo! We appreciate you reaching out about our Tahoe Pitcher. It’s great to hear you’ve kept up with regular filter changes. We're sorry to hear about our timer not performing. We'd like to discuss this further, and kindly ask that you give us a call at 800-242-7482 and keep #250808-000610 handy. Looking forward to your call. Jeffery from The Brita Team

Q: I’ve had my Tahoe pitcher for about one year. I have not changed the filter because I was waiting for the indicator light to turn red, BUT it never has. It still flashes green even after all this time. Is it broken, can you please advise?
submitted by Linda - 7 months ago
A: Great question, Linda, and we’re happy to help. While our filter change indicator counts both time & volume. It includes a fill line on the lid that counts the number of times you fill the pitcher up to the max fill line. If you haven’t reached 120 gallons, it will not turn red. However, it should still be replaced in six months, even if your indicator hasn’t changed. If you’d like to chat more about this, please call us at 800-242-7482 using #260129-000286. Q: What's the difference between this filter and the other 10 cup pitcher besides price
submitted by Jo - 9 months ago
A: Great question, and thanks for your interest in our Brita Tahoe Pitcher, Jo. Filter light doesn't work, can't be replaced; pitcher is cheap, flimsy plastic
Do not buy this pitcher - or anything from Brita. The quality has declined (pitcher is flimsy plastic), and the filter light fails immediately (see all the other reviews). Customer service is of no use - the light/battery cannot be replaced, and Brita’s response was to offer me a few dollars off to buy a new pitcher. I don’t want to waste money replacing something that should still function. Brita’s entire business plan is to produce plastic crap that quickly ends up in landfills, so that they can extract more money from consumers who need to replace their poor-quality Brita products with more poor-quality Brita products. It is planned obsolescence at its worst. This will be the last Brita product I own.

Floods my refrigerator
This is complete trash it has a hole in the pitcher handle that constantly drains water. Despite not overfilling this has been a persistent issue, flooding both the bottom of my fridge and my kitchen floor. Idk if I got a defective one or not but I cannot in good faith recommend this.

Kidney problem water requiremet helped
I have kidney problems and have to drink 2 liters of water a day!! This was suggested to me by a neighbor!! He was right! The water in Morgan Hill is not great and I was having difficulty making myself drink it! But the Britta has made all the difference to me! That yucky taste is gone and I actually love to drink my 2 liters. I can now give it to my animals too. It is better for them also!

2nd try
I researched the Brita line of water filters and selected the Brita Elite due to filtering out Lead. Upon unwraping the pitcher I noticed that around the handle it was cracked. I will be exchanging it! FYI check the pitcher before you puchase it..

The company changed the thickness of the pitcher. Now it is thin and easy to break.
I usually love the Brita pitcher. I purchased a new one and the plastic is so thin. The company has changed the thickness and sturdiness of the pitcher.

Light stop working
Hi, my Brita pitcher light stopped working after only about 17 months of use. I’m a bit disappointed because I expected it to last longer. Is there any way this can be replaced or looked at under warranty?

Time to look elsewhere
I've used Brita water pitchers with Brita filters for years. I only needed some filtering, and Brita did the job. But-- now the newest pitcher is lighter and flimsier. I bought this knowing the electronic red/green light would be the first thing to break. It failed after 3 weeks use, but to me the filter itself is the important thing. Filter prices continue to increase though. The reservoir at the top has been redesigned to make it harder to clean or even dry out.

The brita arrived cracked with very little packing material for protection. It’s also not eligible for a return or to chat with an associate. Buy in store, not online.

Poorly designed
I've used Brita for a long time and still do. But this Tahoe water pitcher and some of the other recent pitchers are in my opinion poorly designed. First of all, having the light there to remind you when it is time to change the filter is unnecessary since you can just mark that on the calendar or your smartphone when you need to change it. Problems with the filter reminder functioning aside, having the battery box on the underside of the lid just complicates cleaning. The lid in general makes for difficult cleaning since there are all these nooks and crannies and spaces and attachments that Serratia marcescens can occupy when you remove the lid from the top of the reservoir to clean. The handle is the worst because it has two entry ways for water to get inside. I recall in the past the handles were sealed. I don't understand why they have it hollow and two holes to allow water in. It makes no sense. The handle itself is flimsy and feels like it could break with the wrong angle. The pitcher is pretty tall at 10.5 inches... taller than my last 10 cup brita pitcher making it difficult to fill from the faucet since it is taller than the faucet. The spout is pretty large and when you pour water in it if you go to low the whole reservoir can move. I miss the simple design. A single one piece lid on top that you can remove and clean with no hole in it and all these parts. A sealed sturdy handle. No light or electronics since one can just mark on their phone when to change it and be reminded that way. I usually change it much earlier than two months anyway since water is a little hard. Like i said I still use Brita and an older pitcher model I have which has some of the same problems as the Tahoe, but it a little shorter, and the handle is not as bad, and no reminder feature. When it breaks, my current options won't be good. Hoping that maybe a simpler 10 cup model could be made. LIke a Brita Classic or something. No bells and whistles. No electronics. Just simple, easy to clean and sturdy with a sealed handle and a height or about 9.75 inches.

Decent water, great pour; bad handle
We went through 2-3 of these and on every single one the handle cracked. The price point is decent and it pours well. I liked the water until I switched to Pur but the Brita functions better. If only I could find a hybrid…

Excellent Option For Filtering Water
We love this pitch! Each time the reservoir is filled, it only takes minutes to filter. Additionally, it has a sensor that flashes green or red to let you know how the filter is doing. Our city began chlorinating our water and the smell has been awful. This pitcher does an incredible job so the water tastes and smells great.

Brita Fan
I like the sleekness of this Brita water filter compared to my previous one - it doesn’t take up as much real estate in my fridge. My only complaint is that water spills out of the pour spout easily when the pitcher is filled. I am a fan of the upgraded filter that reduces lead, and that it lasts up to 6 months!
