Q: What is the difference between this one and the Longlast+ filter? The one on Brita official website is https://www.brita.com/products/longlast-plus-replacement-filters/

Q: Do these remove total dissolved solids?

submitted by Krystal - 2 years ago
  • A: These do not remove TDS, I bought a TDS meter. Reading was almost the same pre and post filter. I will be returning these filters to my local Target.

submitted byKrystal - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Krystal. We don't make claims about TDS reduction at Brita, because TDS isn't a measurement of water safety. It is only an aesthetic (taste) measurement. We focus on what we think matters most to people, contaminant removal and taste. Our filters are certified to reduce contaminants like lead, mercury, cadmium, among many others. Q: At least 75% of the Longlast filters I have used this past year get clogged and stop working after just 3-6 days. Flow holes are too small and air bubbles get trapped. Whacking filter is ineffective. What do you suggest to address this?

  • A: Hello, and thank you for being a part of our Brita family. We're sorry to hear that our Longlast is filtering slowly. Elite Replacement Filter - 2 months ago
These blue Elite filters cost much more than the Standard white filters. I bought a 3 pack of the Elite filters and used all 3 of them. Each lasted only 2 months. And each of the 3-pack filters stopped working after filtering less than 25 gallons. Something is drastically wrong with the Elite filters! Why pay so much more for the Elite filters when the standard filters also last 2 months?
1 reply from Brita team - 2 months ago
Hi there. We’re sorry to learn that our Elite Filters didn’t meet your expectations and last as long as intended. The only exceptions are water that contains high levels of either air or sediment, which is the case in a small fraction of households across the States. We decided to try the elite filters made four our pitcher since we loved the regular ones. I followed the instructions on the packaging to a T. I let 3 fill-ups drain out, as advised. I checked multiple times to make sure the filter was fitted properly. After three fills, the filter was still sending out mere droplets of water, taking FOREVER to fill compared to our original filter. Also, I read on Brita's website that the product contains "trace amounts" of metals "safe for consumption" in the filters. Why even put that in them?

Thanks for the chance to learn about your experience using our Elite Filters. We're sorry you were disappointed with the filtering process, which is usually 10-15 minutes. The only exceptions are water that contains high levels of either air or sediment, which is the case in a small fraction of households across the States. We'd also recommend researching what each filter removes from your water here at https://www.brita.com/why-brita/better-water/, as selecting the perfect filter for your home is important. The first two order were great! Each were still working fine after 6 months. Ordered 4 more and each has been TERRIBLE!!! These 4 filters have basically stopped filtering after 2-4 weeks. They slow to a trickle for about a week then barely anything drips out after that. Contacted Brita who took all the info including bar codes and manufacturing date but that was it not even a sorry for wasting your money. So either Brita knows they are defective or don't care or both. And the water is not hard. May go back to the original cheaper filter or just go but another brand.

Hello there! Thank you for letting us know about the slowness you experienced with our Elite Filter. We apologize for any disappointment caused, and we're committed to ensuring that you have access to great-tasting water. Typically, our filters should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to filter a reservoir of water in your pitcher or dispenser. However, in rare cases where the water contains high levels of air or sediment, it may take longer. So we can help, please call us at 800-242-7482 with reference number 231228-000319. We look forward to the opportunity to help.

Disappointing

We began using this filter 24 days ago in an effort to increase the quality of our water given the recent lawsuit against the company. We fill our pitcher regularly throughout the day. At first the filter was running through quickly, now it is so slow--a couple of drips every now and then. It takes forever to fill the pitcher now, hours. I doubt our filter will last the month. 6 months seems like an impossibility. Given the price and what it was advertised as, I would not purchase this filter again.

Thanks for connecting with us, and we're sorry to learn about the performance of our Elite Filter. Common causes include aeration, sediment in tap water, and bubbles trapped in the filter. If you haven’t already tried these steps, here are a few suggestions to help improve water flow. Tap the pitcher while there’s water in the reservoir to dislodge any air trapped in the filter. (If you see bubbles float up from the filter, that’s a sign it’s working.) It can also help to remove the filter, then tap it firmly on a solid surface or shake it for a few seconds before re-inserting. In addition, you can try re-rinsing the filter or soaking it submerged in cold water for 15 minutes. So we can ensure that you have access to great-tasting hydration, please call us at 800-242-7482 using reference number 231212-000256. We're eager to hear from you.

Water tastes best of any pitcher system I've had. But, the elite filter lasts a month or two--nowhere near the 6 months claim. Within about a month, water filtered through quite slowly. When I called Brita, agent just kept repeating it was either air pockets or too much "sediment" in my water. I don't think so. Other filters--including the old standard Brita filters--have lasted plenty longer. Still, the water tastes excellent.

These leave a weird mouth feel (almost like a film or oily) and awful after taste. I thought something was wrong with our water for the last year and started drinking bottled water as I could not stomach the taste and found myself nauseated after drinking it on an empty stomach. My daughter also had the same experience, however my husband could only barely detect the difference. After spending way too much on bottled water I decided to switch back to the original white filters as a last hope and the problem was instantly solved. Our water tastes clean, light and refreshing again. I can't believe how much money I wasted on an upgraded filter that made me feel awful.

Longlast isn't long lasting, unfortunately.

Money wasted - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
Bought a double pack of the “long last” (6 months according to box copy) while they were on sale. Previous filter was still good, so a couple months later, I installed the first filter. Ran water thru 4 pitcher fulls as instructed, and the result tasted terrible. I did a couple more thinking whatever magic was necessary hadn’t happened yet. No improvement. So I took it out and installed the 2nd one. Same issue. I was beyond the return window at target by a month, so I contacted Brita directly. Their customer service was very pleasant and responsive. They sent me a new pair of the same type. I installed those in early July, and it’s Nov 3, and water is undrinkable. I live alone so there is not super heavy use of this pitcher, though I definitely go thru 3-4 gallons a week at home. To spend extra $ on the long last and have it go bad about 2 months short is not ok. It seems this is sporadic, as the very first 2 I bought with the pitcher worked for 6 months just fine. Nothing else has changed. Bummed. I want a sustainable option for filtered water. I already don’t like the plastic cartridges but at least there’s a way to recycle them. Not sure what I’ll opt for next once this final filter bites the dust but really not thrilled with the thought of repeating any of this jumping thru hoops bit.

At first the filter worked great about 1 1/2 months ago. Then suddenly slowed down to the point it takes 3 or more hours for the water to go through the filter. It’s really ridiculous. The filter is supposed to last way longer than this. I didn’t realize this until I read the reviews. Don’t waste your money. It cost to much to replace every month. This pitcher in the photo I filled 3 hours ago and it still is not done!!! Crazy!

I’m surprised at all the negative reviews, but perhaps there are issues I’ve just not encountered yet. I’ve been using the long-last filters for a year or more and have had no problems with them fitting in my “classic” Brita 10-cup pitcher, nor with filter speed, charcoal residue or any of the other malfunctions mentioned. The first pour does filter pretty quickly; subsequent pours perhaps a BIT slower (my impression anyway). My current filter has been in use for more than the recommended 6 months and only now has the water begun to taste worse. I do advise filling only to the marked fill line, otherwise some water will not go through the filter (learned that the hard way). I’m happy with these filters.
