The healthy ingredients are great for my cats overall health. The size and texture were perfect, and my cats had no problems eating this cat food.

However, it does seem to be an enjoyable food! We are working on weight loss for our cat and she is more than happy to run up the stairs (to give her a little cardio!) to get this food. It’s important to us that she still eats it fully and she does, no complaint. This is definitely a food we would continue to purchase and use as long as she continues to eat it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the IAMS Proactive Health Healthy Weight Adult Dry Cat Food for my overweight cat. I was drawn to it because it’s recommended by vets and made to help with weight management while still supporting energy and digestion. I liked that real chicken is the first ingredient and that it includes L-Carnitine for strong muscles. At first, my cat didn’t seem too interested and barely touched it on the first day. However, by the second day, he started eating it more willingly—though I still wouldn’t say he loved it. Also, the smell of the food was a bit unpleasant to me, which made it harder to continue using long-term. Overall, while I appreciate the ingredients and the health benefits it offers, I probably wouldn’t buy it again for my cat, simply because he didn’t seem to enjoy it much and the smell wasn’t the best for me either.

This Iams healthy weight dry food has chicken as its number one ingredient, is packed with protein and full of tasty flavor. He loved every last nibble and lick of his bowl. We love that there's no artificial fillers or preservatives and that he loves it. So far, it's a winner for this elder indoor cat!

The portion control is on the mark for my cats as well. Good quality here and seems like a great bag to pick up for the future when I have to set up an automatic feeder when I'm on vacation for a week.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My cat has to eat mostly wet food and he is a total monster for it so I used this food to supplement some of the wet food and it has worked really well. It is nice that it is a weight control food and that he can have it added to his food without me worrying that he is eating too much. He has loved the taste and adjusted to it with no issues.

No wonder this is 'healthy weight'. Half of the food is filler that'll go right through them. "But the description says "no fillers"", which no regulatory body (FDA) evaluates those statements like that. There are only two saving graces here: 1) It's not ridiculously expensive and 2) the first ingredient is actually chicken (not chicken meal, though that is #2). If you really want to help your cat lose weight, give it a place/time to exercise, do not free feed, and portion control. You give the food. You control its intake. No amount of this food will stop it from being fat unless you portion control. Per the guidelines, feeing a 12 lb cat 1/2 cup of dry food per day is ridiculous. Of course they're going to lose weight. The IAMS Proactive Healthy Indoor suggests 2/3 to 3/4 cups for a 12 lb cat. At only a 11% reduction in caloric content by weight, going from 2/3 - 3/4 cups per day to 1/2 cups per day is a 16-33% reduction in food. That's a lot. You can achieve the same results by cutting back on portions with a higher quality food. Also the ingredients and nutritional content really isn't much different than other IAMS products. it's just a name used to inspire the desire to buy a new product.
