Description

I wanted to create a purple shampoo that was great for toning blondes + brunettes, that was also sulfate-free... I’ve always had a hard time finding that combo. If you like ashy tones or even pastel lavender tones, you can use this every time you shampoo. If you like neutral tones, use it only when needed to cut brass. Use this with or without The One Purple Conditioner on natural or color treated hair.

Toning time!

How to:
1. Depending on the thickness of your hair, apply a dime to quarter-sized amount of shampoo into your palm.
2. Apply to wet hair, massaging into the scalp to create a rich lather.
3. With purple shampoo you want to make sure you apply more product where you see more brass. I like to let it sit a little longer toward the top where hair is less porous and tends to be warmer in tone (2-3 min), then I let it run down through the ends where it's more porous for less time (1-2 min).
4. Rinse well and follow with conditioner or a hydrating mask.

Tip: Once your hair is toned, pause on using until you need it again. If you ever go overboard, shampoo with a clarifying shampoo + condition well.

Contains Zip-Up Technology™, our proprietary strengthening complex designed to "zip-up" split ends while targeting weak areas of the hair, smoothing the appearance of damaged cuticles and helping to protect hair from environmental stressors and color fade.

Q: Hi, our shower stall stained purple because we didn't clean it off well enough. How can we remove the stains. It is either an acrylic or fiberglass. Is the purple component ammonia based or what?

submitted by CAJ - 7 months ago
  • A: Happy to help! We can assure you that while this is very uncommon, our purple shampoo is a highly pigmented formula and it's possible for the tone to transfer to porous surfaces. We recommend trying Isopropyl alcohol or Baking Soda to remove the surface stains.

  • A: Thank you for your question. You can use this Purple Shampoo on white hair, but we strongly recommend to mix the Purple Shampoo with your everyday shampoo. If you need more toning, add more purple shampoo to the mix.

Q: I have black hair am I okay using the purple shampoo, I used it once will it be okay

submitted by - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Lorena, thank you for your question. Just to clarify, when you say black hair, are you referring to color or texture? If you're referring to color, it will be fine. You won't see any toning effects if your hair is black but there is no harm in using it. If you're looking for something to put a purple hue to your black hair color, this will not be strong enough. If this is in regards to your natural texture, I would need to know more about you hair color and porosity to give the best possible answer! Let me know, happy to help.

Q: I have thin oily hair will this weigh my hair down and look oily ?

submitted by erikalyn - 2 years ago
  • A: Thanks for your question! The One Purple Shampoo is for all hair types, even thin hair, looking to tone brassiness in the hair. It will not weight down your hair or make look oily. Just make sure you rinse out the shampoo thoroughly!

This dyed my hair purple and completely dried out my hair to the point where it started to break and fall out after a few uses. Just not for me but maybe for others. I woukd probably use this with a deep conditioner in case your hair starts to feel dry. I wish my hair agreed with this product because I loved the smell!

Got so much brassiness out of my hair on the first use. I had bleached it and died it pink at home and once the pink washed out, my hair was pretty orange. It looks much better now and I use it once a week usually.

Usually I get a different brand but saw this and tried it out. Let the roots soak in it for 5 minutes due to how brassy they were after a recent highlight. So impressed. I actually like my hair now! I was wearing hats due to the brassy look. Happy I found it

This is the best purple shampoo on the martlet, and I’ve tried them all — You name it. Everything from Sephora, Ulta, CosmoProf… THEM ALL! I always end up going back to this one. I buy the large bottle because I always end up sharing with someone because I know once they try it, they will LOVE IT! Just buy it. You won’t waste your time or money.

Drying and Frizzy-ing

I lose so much hair in the shower when using this product, I'm convinced it is making me lose my hair. I will pull out ten or more strands at a time just lathering this in my hair in the shower, over and over, until I rinse, and then my hair is noticeably brittle and dry afterward. Since my hair is a pale yellow and I shampoo my roots and then follow with the Kirstin Ess purple conditioner for at least 20 minutes, I do get an icy pale blonde, but it just isn't worth the damage this has done to my hair over the 5-6 times I've used it in the last month and a half. I would love to return this.

This is a hardcore purple shampoo but that’s what I needed to tone my hair to be closer to platinum. I went from dark brown to light/platinum blond. I left it on my hair for three minutes and it gave my hair that icy look with the lightest tint of purple. If you don’t want your hair that icy I do not suggest this product. It is absolutely perfect for what I need though and I recommend it to anyone looking for a strong toner for brassy blond hair.

This shampoo completely dried out my hair after one use. My ends feel crispy. Also this is the most diluted purple shampoo I’ve tried. It did literally nothing to take out any brassiness. I’ve tried many different purple shampoos and this one didn’t have any affect whatsoever. Will be returning.

Love her other products, but this purple shampoo will STAIN your tub/ shower… so use with caution. I’ve tried numerous other “purple products” over the years and have never had one permanently discolor my shower.

I’ve been using this shampoo for about 6 months now and have found this is the best purple shampoo to keep my hair a cool toned blonde. I have used other purple shampoos and had a cool toner in my hair but it would still look more yellow than I’d like. Other comments have said this turned their hair purple but it has not for me. I used the matching conditioner for a while but it was not moisturizing enough so I changed conditioners and my hair has been super healthy.

I was pleasantly surprised by this toning shampoo. It really tones down my blonde and brings out more silver hues. I would give it 4 or 5 stars but my only issue with it is that my hair feels more dry after use which is pretty typical of Kristin Ess hair products. Bleached blondes need more moisture in toning shampoos than what this one does.
