The last “big” kit I got from LEGO was the Lamborghini. The Lamborghini was a fantastic kit to build. I thought that for the price, this kit would be just as good. I was wrong. IT’S BETTER! It was not as difficult to build as the Lambo. The McLaren P1 is so well designed that, although it is technically complex, it was a very stress free build. That is not to say it is an easy build. For example, somewhere along the build process, I missed something and the reverse doesn’t work. Obviously it was my fault. But the great thing about this is I get to disassemble part for the car back to the transmission part, correct whatever I missed and enjoy the build again. And who wouldn’t enjoy that? I would really love to see a 1/8 scale Aston Martin DB12 or Vantage. Or maybe even the Vanquish! That would be awesome! In conclusion, if you are reading reviews to decide if you want to buy this kit, stop reading and buy this kit while you can. Keep it up LEGO. I don’t know how you do it but each big kit I buy is better than the one before. Two very big thumbs up!

This has been the most technical, challenging and fun build of all the supercars. I have built all five, and after being disappointed at the two most recent models, this one was the greatest. Keep them coming! Too bad I have to wait two years.

I really am enjoying this build, however, I am on a long hold until the 2 missing pieces are sent to me. I dug for spares in my collection, and went to the local Bricks and Minifigs, but no luck. 9-28 business days is excessive to wait for 2 parts.

I enjoyed the build of this kit. It was a very good comparison to building an actual car with all the mechanics that went into the car to make the features functional from engine to pistons to shocks. Doors, hood, storage and spoiler all open or adjust. This was the largest build I have done with technic bricks. Happy to see the final product.

I have all four of the latest supercar builds - Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and now this McLaren and I have to say this is the most complex and most satisfying. The engine/gearbox is by the far the most complex of the 4 - Superbly designed and engineered. Really enjoyed the whole build which took around 20 hours and the result is a piece of art.

An incredible build and a very cool display piece. Still, the price of these things is getting harder and harder to justify purchasing. I absolutely get the detailed complexity of these sets cost $ to produce, but when I can buy a major appliance for the cost o two of these sets, then well….it’s tough to justify. I’m an older adult so I suppose I have some amount of “disposable income” (although by no way a lot) so I can afford them. Every time I buy one, though, I think how many folks - especially younger - are simply getting priced out of enjoying these sets. Philosophical rant over, this is an incredible set. Tremendous fun to build and great display piece.

I bought this model with high hopes, and they were exceeded. This car is both technically satisfying and beautiful. The hybrid electric and gas-powered engines are fun. The transmission is a blast to put together. The model itself is just gorgeous. There are so many wonderful little details. I'm so happy that I bought this one.

Loved this build! Found it to be the best of all the Technic autos I have built in this price point (Bugatti, Ferrari, and Lamborghini). Directions were better than prior builds and the new features are great! Great build for the cost! Door functions are much better than the prior aUris and I hit no parts in this build that flustered me (something some of the prior auto builds have). Highly recommend! Can’t wait now for the next Technic auto release! Keep moving in this direction and I will love these builds forever!
