Compostable Bags
I was intrigued by the idea of compostable zip lock bags. I am not super familiar with composting (yet). I love the feel of the bags! They are thick and feel very sturdy. I haven't used them in the freezer, but they kept cut veggies in the fridge well protected.

Works great in the freezer and in reducing waste.
Really like these for when freezing anything from pizza dough, produce or meat. They work well and if you are in an area that commercialy composts they are a great way to reduce your waste. Overall my favorite compostible item.

Too much text on a pricey bag
My experience with these bags: they demonstrated strengths and notable drawbacks, particularly when compared to traditional plastic freezer bags. The Good: Strong, Sturdy, and Freezer-Proof One of the standout features of the Matter compostable freezer bags is their robust construction. The material feels significantly thick, (especially when compared to other compostable bags) and this translated to excellent performance in the freezer. Over multiple weeks of storing various food items, not a single bag ripped or showed concerning signs of wear and tear. Furthermore, the interlocking zipper provides a strong enough seal that I was confident the food inside was well-protected from freezer burn but confident enough that I would fill one of these bags with leftover soup to freeze. From a durability standpoint during freezer use, these bags performed well. The Not-So-Good: Functionality Compromised by Design and Opacity Despite their strength, the practical usability of the Matter bags in a busy freezer was frustrating. The bags are not transparent and feature a wall of reminders that compostable bags are making a difference in the fight against climate change on one side. While I appreciate the heads up that the bags break down in 12 months, this design choice, coupled with the opaque material, makes identifying contents a pain. Locating a specific item often involved pulling out multiple bags and relying on any notes I might have jotted on the limited clear space. And i'll be honest, I don't always write on the bags! This is a step down from the ease of use offered by clear plastic bags, where contents are readily visible and even the house brands place a space to write contents and date on the bag. This design choice hampered the primary function for me which left me frustrated because it feels unnecessary. If I am willing to pay 3x more per bag for it to be compostable, I do not need a reminder that compostable bags break down and plastic ones don't. The Cost Factor: A Premium for Eco-Friendliness Sustainability often comes at a premium, and these freezer bags are no exception. A recent check at Target revealed a price of $4.49 for a pack, translating to approximately $0.30 per bag. In comparison, Ziploc brand freezer bags were priced around $0.22 per bag, while Target's Up and Up store brand offered an even more budget-friendly option at roughly $0.09 per bag. While investing more in sustainable products is a choice many, including myself, are willing to make, the Matter bags feel like a luxury item that doesn't quite match the everyday functionality of their less expensive, traditional plastic counterparts. The higher cost, combined with the challenges in identifying contents, makes the choice whether I buy these in the future, less straightforward. I wanted to like them. I cheered when I pulled out a bag that had been sitting in the freezer for a week and it was intact and closed. But I had to pick the bag up to figure out whether it held bagels or kale. Final Thoughts Matter compostable freezer bags boast a strong seal and durable, freezer-safe material. However, the busy external printing made food storage and organization harder. Coupled with a significantly higher price point than conventional plastic freezer bags, they represent a trade-off between eco-consciousness and common sense.I would not recommend these at the moment. If they remove the busy text and make it easy to write the contents on the outside, probably on both sides of the bag, I am interested in trying these again.

Good quality and great for the environment!
These storage bags are reliable and strong. And first I was a little hesitant to use them because they don’t have the same feel or texture as a regular storage bag. Despite the different feel, they work great! They held up great in the freezer and they are easy to open/close. The only thing I didn’t really like was the writing on the bag. Overall, great product that made me feel like I was doing a good thing!

For when a situation that calls for something disposable but you want to limit your environmental impact
We try very hard to be cognizant of our usage of single-use plastic. We have a good number of reusable sealable bags, however some things (like dirty baby clothes) you don't want in the same thing that holds food. These fill that need well. They are made very well and had no issue with the "zipper"

Nice in theory...
I love the idea of these because the waste of plastic bags makes me feel guilty, but these are only compostable in commercial composting facilities, so unless that's something that's accessible to you, there's no point in these. You technically can't compost these at home even if you compost at home. I do have a home composting machine and I experimented by cutting this up into smaller pieces and trying to compost it with other food scraps and it broke down into smaller bits. I think they'd be fine to use as compost. The bags themselves don't feel quite as sturdy as brand name plastic zip bags and they're quite soft and lack any rigidity, so depending on how you are filling them and what you are filling them with, it's definitely a different experience than what I am used to. It's a completely different feel from what you're used to, but if you're trying to avoid plastic and you have a way to send these to a commercial composting facility, these are a nice option.

Eco friendly bags
These compostable gallon bags seem well made and are easy to close. They can be used in the fridge or freezer. I’m not sure how well they protect against freezer burn and have yet to try in composter.

Nice Alternative to Ziploc
As someone who just started composting, I was happy to see these storage bags on Target's shelves. The closure system works well and the bags have held up to both freezer and refrigerator usage. I also like that I can us them as mini composting bags once I'm finished using them for storage. Only downside is that they aren't fully transparent, so sometimes is hard to see what is in the bag clearly.

Compostable Bag
I like the concept of compostable bags as they are better for the environment. The bags feel different and so far they’re working well. They don’t last as long as regular bags. I haven’t tested them long term but so far so good.

Nice and thick material
These bags are nice and thick. I was expecting them to be A bit more see-through. The quality is great and I can’t wait to keep on using these. These are perfect for defrosting meat. The closure is very easy to close and you don’t have to keep on running your finger over a few times to make sure that it’s actually closed.

These are interesting for sure
So I’m a bit new to compostable and earth friendly products. These are for sure an interesting product. Their texture, size and overall. Now I haven’t had anything get freezer burnt yet but I am not sure I have much faith in these for preventing that. The snap seal doesn’t give me much confidence, but works. The bag itself seems like it might actually be a little bit oversized which I am not complaining about. All in all if you are worried about the environment and or just want to try something new. It’s worth a shot.

A sustainable storage solution
In a world increasingly conscious of environmental impact, Matter Compostable Gallon Freezer Bags offer a practical alternative to traditional plastic storage bags. These plant-based compostable bags are designed to keep food fresh while. Not only are they eco friendly but they have a stronger seal to prevent leaks and help protect against freezer burn. They can also be used multiple times before composting. The only downside size is you have to use the product within a certain time frame for the best optimal preservation. Overall if you’re seeking a sustainable food storage option that aligns with your eco-conscious values, Matter Compostable Gallon Freezer Bags are a great choice. The sturdy design, compostability, and chemical-free composition make them a standout alternative to conventional freezer bags.

Great freezer storage bags
Great freezer bags, but also clutch for marinades in the fridge. I enjoyed that these bags are easy to open/close, are compostable /made from plants, and PFA and BPA free. I have been using these for quite some time and there isn’t a significant difference from traditional plastic bags, so the switch is easy! This has a thumbs up from me.
