I was glad to pay a little more for compostable bags, but they can not open or without ripping and tearing. If you can get them open the first time, they definitely tear on the second open. I won’t purchase again unless they make huge improvements on the seal.

I don’t know what happened to this product in some kind of reformulation because I had purchased before, and it was fine. This (with new box appearance) is awful. The bags are closed as one pulls them from the box and then practically impossible to open! I’ve ripped most that I have managed to open, making them unusable. Do not buy!

I love these bags. They’re thick and very durable. Only downside is they’re very hard to open and if you don’t grip it the right way, it’s possible to tear the part you hold to open them

Although these aren't freezer bags, that's where I use them (frozen fruit, chicken broth cubes, etc. I haven't had any issues with them tearing or breaking. Are they as "tough" as plastic bags? Probably not, but for a compostable bag, they're pretty tough.

was super excited for compostable sealable bags, so I bought a box in every size from my Target store. went to use them and the bags won't open! I fought with multiple bags to get the seal to unseal, tugging, pulling, sliding, even taking a knife tip to pry open the seal... and eventually pulled so hard I strained my thumbs and wrists. Good idea terribly executed! Will have to return all the boxes I bought :( (tried adding photos of stretched out, unopened bags, but don't appear to be uploading)

I agree with the other purchasers of these bags that they are impossible to open w/o destroying them. I feel bad that I wasted money and the entire box of these things because they are unusable. :-( We've bought and used the garbage bags of this same brand, so I thought the sandwhich bags would be goood as well, but they are not usable. I wish they were better, since I'm a big proponent of recycled/compostable things!

These bags are impossible to open without tearing the grab liner or tearing the bag open. I tried on 20 bags all with different techniques and delicate attempts to no avail, they are simply not durable. I also noticed the box says to use within 6 months of purchase... by biodegradable I expect the product to last a few years before degrading into harmless and inert materials, not right in front of your eyes. Clever idea but it's clear that plastic has won this one unfortunately, for the time being until better materials are brought to mass market, that last for years and don't break instantly.

While I love the idea of these compostable bags, they are a pain to open and are not very sturdy. We ripped five open before finally finding that you have to bend the "lip" of the zip.

We were encouraged to find this alternative to plastic baggies. However, after several attempts and torn bags, we were unable to make use of them because the zip closure is too strong for the bag. I hope the problem can be reconciled as their compost-ability is a great benefit.
