Using it for water could cause issues because the feeder’s internal mechanics and RFID lid aren’t sealed for liquid containment.Water can seep into electronic components.

Bricked after two days, reset only works for an hour
The tag sensor is very finicky, and wants to close after 30 seconds even if my cat is actively eating from the bowl and has not moved away. After two days of use, the microcontroller quit working - blank screen and would not respond to the buttons. I pulled the batteries for a few hours and then reloaded them, and after roughly one hour the same issue happened (blank screen and buttons don't work). I tried this three more times before giving up. I'm returning this garbage and getting a better feeder.

I don't recommend especially for a cat
There are a couple of major design flaws with this feeder in my opinion. The first is that to even open and close it to put in food or remove the only bowl they provide to clean it, you have to go through menu settings. That means you’ve got to pick it up and turn it around so that you can see to navigate through these menu options. There ought to be a button to just let you open and close it manually. Secondly, the provided RFID tag has to be right ABOVE the opening of the door before it will open. So if my cat approaches it, it doesn’t open and therefore she is not learning that it will open. Lastly, the provided bowl is way too deep for a portion of cat food.

Love it!
Works wonderfully so far! One of my cats is a grazer and the other will eat any cat food in sight. I just set it up and my cats are already figuring out how it works. Now they can eat in peace and I don't have to worry about watching them all the time. Its simple to set up, you do either need C-type batteries or a 5 Volt block to plug into the wall as they aren't provided for you. Wasn't a big deal for me as I have a bunch of blocks lying around. Its not loud and you can set a feeding timer for however long they eat, or you can set a time for it to go off, there is even a second chip for a second cat or if you lose/damage the first one.

Overall a Good Purchase
I did a lot of research into microchip feeders for my two cats and chose this one for a few reasons. Namely, they were less than half the cost of the other two brands on the market. Things I like about this feeder is the price, they keep my overweight male cat from eating my female cats food, fairly easy to setup as long as you read the directions, and the bowl is removable for cleaning. The things I dislike about this feeder are that well, it's ugly, and it's BIG. I was shocked at how large it is. It will still work for me but just takes up a lot of space. If you want something smaller and nicer looking, you are going to have to shell out the $200 for the surefeed bowl. Another thing to note is that your cat has to wear a collar with these so you can attach the tag to them. There is no option to use the microchip in the back of their neck. Additionally, these do not come with the USB block. You need to plug it into the wall. Luckily, I had some laying around. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase, and my cats acclimated to them immediately with zero issues. Hopefully, they will last me a long time.

Works well for the price
I bought two for my cats. I followed the instructions and set them up pretty easily. My one complaint is that one of them isn't as sensitive as the other, so the tag has to be very close to the sensor to activate. The other thing is I was hoping the feeders would work with the microchip in my cats, but the sensor can't sense the chips, so I have to use the provided tags.

Big disappointment
The first problem was I ordered 3 feeders- one for each one of my cats but only 1 was shipped. Once I installed batteries in the one I received and followed the directions to start the menu, it didn’t work. The display was off and no options for timer, etc were available. Big disappointment.
