"Wow! This Jumbo Volcano is fun for the entire family. We enjoyed putting the volcano together over the Thanksgiving holiday, with ages ranging from 5 to 47. The Jumbo Volcano kit includes everything you'll need to assemble it. I recommend using gloves during the plaster application due to the messiness. We all enjoyed every phase of the process in creating this volcano. Be patient and read through the instructions thoroughly; yes, this project will take a day or two, so please give yourself enough time to tackle it. I'm amazed that the volcano stands over a foot in height, considering the tasks required to complete the kit. The pop crystals make a fun popping sound when you add the cup of water. Be sure to pour the water slowly to allow the eruption to rise. So much fun!!!"

This was a bummer overall. We had a blast making it, but it’s a multiple day process. It is HUGE so that was cool. But it took us about 5 days to construct with all the drying of the layers. Then when we went to explode it, such a disappointment. It wasn’t worth the work we put in.
Great learning needs time

My kids were so excited to make this volcano. We worked on it as a family, but it took a couple of days to complete and dry. It was so time consuming and lengthy to build it, but we had fun doing it. There were so many parts and pieces. The explosion wasn't what we expected either. Overall, if you have the time and want to learn about volcanos, thanks to the learning guide that is included, this would be great product for you.
Save your money. This is crap.

This was such a disappointment. The directions were well illustrated and spelled out. However, it was difficult for my 13 years old to stretch the included rubber band as instructed. The package should have included gloves because it is extremely messy. Also, there was not enough plaster included, so there are many bare spots. My son refused to paint the volcano or do the experiment because it “looked trashy and stupid”. I don’t disagree with him.
Disappointing

My 10 year old daughter and friend spent a long time making the volcano which was a lot of fun. The quality of the volcano and the directions were great. They were able to follow the instructions on their own, but when it came time to mix the ingredients to have it explode, they were left very disappointed. The baking soda and vinegar from our pantry worked better, but still didn’t explode like in the pictures.
Get their imagination going!

I promise you their eyes will grow big as saucers when they see this box. It was a fantastic STEM project for the kids. This actually interested them enough to put down their screen get two hours. I got pictures of the before however, by the time I came back from running errands (buying a plastic sheet to place under the volcano), they had already put this Volcano together Themselves and had gotten it going. Surprisingly, there was virtually no mess. There were cardboard volcano parts, plaster to complete the volcano, eruption powder and pip rocks to bring it to life. Super fun! Virtually fool proof as they definitely did not need my help at all. Ages 11, 10,and 9.

This product was so much fun for my girls. My girls are ages 11 and nine and this gave them multiple hours upon multiple days worth of fun! what was even more fun was the fact that their friends even wanted to help them make this product it lasted forever and made them come out of the house!
Awesome kit

This was a super fun (and messy) kit! My kids loved it. I didn’t know these volcanoes came in such a large size, and it was quite the feat building it and getting it ready to go. The frame was easy to put together, but the plaster wrap and plaster were time consuming. (I recommend following the directions and placing something under it when doing these two steps. I stupidly didn’t and spent a while mopping my floor, lol. I also recommend having some plastic spoons and paint brushes on hand. The wooden spoon broke while mixing the plaster and my kit didn’t come with a paint brush.) I ended up doing most of this part myself, but my kids loved painting it and doing the eruptions. It’s great that it comes with three sets of eruption powders so it wasn’t a one and done situation (we moved on to the good old fashioned baking soda and vinegar afterward). My son is excited to have a couple of volcanic rocks, too. All and all, we really enjoyed this activity.

This jumbo volcano from National Geographic was a fun and educational activity we decided to do as a family. Not only was it a fun project for my kids, but we also really enjoined learning about volcanos through the learning guide that is included. Form beginning to end the volcano was fun and exciting to do. My kids looked forward to every step with anticipation. It does take you a few days to finish because of drying time but it was an enjoyable activity that we finished as a family. While building it the only thing that was a difficulty for us was the amount of plaster was not enough to cover the whole volcano well. We really would have needed another full bag of plaster to cover it well.
Messy, STEM-y Exciting fun!

What a fun experiment to share with my girls. Growing up, making a volcano was a sort of "right of passage" in school and I'm happy to share it with my daughters. It was messy, but they loved it. The thing's pretty big too! If you need a fun STEM experiment, get this!
Fun and interesting

My little girls are homeschooled and we used this as a science lesson. It was so fun and although a bit messy, worth their excitement. I was able to set it up and do the project pretty easily. The girls have told a ton of people about it and what they learned about volcanoes!
Time consuming mess

Most science kits I’ve seen around these days have most of the sub combines done for you besides the final steps. With that said, this kit is not like that at all, it is a big, heavy mess and time consuming project! It took time to dry in three phases before doing the final combine. With that said, conquering each phase of this monster volcano was an achievement.
Not as great as we expected

This is a great project for you and your kids. I’m going to tell you- it requires a good amount of time. You have to assemble the cardboard first. We found that part to be entertaining. Next, you have to create the plaster to wrap it with- that wasn’t so fun, but it wasn’t difficult either. Just a little time consuming. Make sure it dries. You can paint it and be creative but my kids got too impatient and decided to go plain. Then comes the eruption process. The eruption was the part that was disappointing. For being a big volcano- the eruption just wasn’t the greatest and I felt it leaked from the bottom a bit and it fell short for us. The concept is good, but just didn’t have enough oomph for us.
Huge and several day long project

This volcano is super cool. It also has many steps that need to be completed over several days. The building of the base and wet paper to put on are quick and easy. Then it has to dry and then concrete which has to dry for several days before it can be painted. It’s huge and fun and a long project!
Not for us

We were really excited to make this volcano. We had a hard time with the directions. The volcano was underwhleming and overall my kids were bored with it. I think it would make a nice science project for school or homeschool but just didnt cut it as a fun everyday activity.
Great Science Project

This is such a great learning experiment & hands on project. Comes with everything you need to make a large size volcano that actually erupts. It does take a few days to get it all together carefully step by step. It takes a few days because from plastering it & painting it needs to dry. But once completed it slowly erupts.

This is such a fun and cool experiment to do with the kids. It gives the person step by step directions and very easy to follow. Keeps the kids entertained for hours and teaches them awesome science experiments. Perfect for all ages but highly recommend an adult is present in case of any surprises.

So my kids and I were so excited to get this. My 10 year old daughter got it out and started doing it outside with another adult. It became messy for her and then she got bored because it was taking too long to do. So she stopped working on it and hasn’t finished it yet. It’s sitting on the side of our house and I hope we can work on it again soon so I can see it explode. I think it would make a fun gift for kids that have a good attention span or an adult that will work on it with them.
Nice activity, but not enough plaster

Super sized volcano. This thing was huge! It came with everything in the box to make an erupting volcano. My 11 year old had a great time assembling it, but he did require a bit of assistance at times. I like that everything was included and directions were fairly easy to understand. My main gripe was there was not enough plaster in the box to complete the project. I had to go out and buy more plaster. The popping crystals also did not work and were stuck together in the package. Overall, a fun learning activity for kids!
Cool for presents and fun project

It’s a really cool basic volcano. It’s not your standard papier-mâché for sure, there are a lot of cool features. Would recommend this one. Could be tied into homeschooling or just for kids who like volcanoes.
