Q: Does this vitamin have a fishy taste? Is this DHA animal-based? This looks like the best value, but is this a case of "you get what you pay for"? Should I go with the Up&Up brand with plant-based DHA?

A: No it has no taste or after taste. As with any pill or vitamin, I think it is best to take it with some food. It is a great deal. The pills are big, but very easy to take.

This is a by far the worst prenatal vitamin out there. Used to be ok but past year or more the tablets smell so fishy that they are very hard to swallow. I have to hold my breath while taking it and have to have food nearby to make sure the taste of the fish goes away after taking it. Will not recommend.

I have been taking these for a few years and do agree that the smell is hit or miss now. I never had an issue until recently - extreme fish smell! Gag! The bottle I purchased today does not have that and I am thrilled! I’m willing to continue taking this prenatal because of the high amount of folic acid and other nutrients. Also, they are 3rd party reviewed.

These are so bad. They smell like fish food. Not only that but your fingers will also smell like fish food for hours just from handling them. I'm not even pregnant yet and I can't even. These were great for my first pregnancy but idk what in the world they did to these. Don't waste the money, trust me.

Absolutely disgusting. I’ve been using these since 2017 for all of my pregnancies and while breastfeeding and I’ve never had an issue. My most recent bottle is just like everyone else’s, sooooo fishy and gross. The pills and bottle stink, my fingers stink from touching them, the taste is rancid, and I get horrible indigestion from them. Please please please nature made, go back right the original formula. These are so bad.

After looking for far too many hours for the best prenatal, this was the one I landed on. It was recommended many different places and seemed like the best option. I was a little concerned after reading other reviews about a foul fishy taste, but I’m heat to say that is not a problem with the bottle I received. I have been taking it for close to 2 weeks and have noticed zero smell and no strange after affects/nausea after taking it. I’m so glad I decided to try it for myself. If you’re on the fence, go ahead and buy it!

I'm not a child and if it still does my body well, I'd rather have 3 seconds of fishy smell right when I swallow the vitamin than having another brand with additional preservatives or chemicals. Also, this is such a well known brand that even my old gynecologist in Iran had recommended this when I went for an ultrasound during my first (and successful) pregnancy. I still highly recommend this brand.

I think overall these pills are fine. The first bottle I bought was the 60 ct in late Feb 2023 and had the fish smell everyone is talking about. I personally didn't mind it though. The second bottle I bought was the 90 ct in late April 2023 and has almost no scent/taste at all. So hopefully the fish smell is going away in recent batches. However, a few times the pills have accidentally gone down my throat sideways which was VERY unpleasant. So sure there might be better options out there, but these seem to have everything you need for a decent price.

Many reviews are related to the smell and aftertaste. I don’t really notice anything foul smelling- maybe if you take a big whiff into the bottle but who is really doing that? Not sure why many are in such an uproar. I find that these have the right ingredients and are relatively inexpensive for a prenatal with DHA.

They contain the right amount of vitamin variety but it has a foul smell. I take it with meal and lots of water but my stomach ends up upset/gassy. Feels heavy and makes me nauseous. Unfortunately due to its multitude of vitamins, I have to deal with it.

I’ve been taking these prenatals going on 4 years now- before, during, and after my first pregnancy. I continue to take them because I can feel and see a difference in my body- mind clarity, nails, hair. And oat importantly I feel the difference with a product that has so many fewer ingredients than other prenatals. It shocked me to learn about the unnecessary ingredients in some other brand name and even Target’s private label prenatal.

I have been a loyal customer buying these prenatal vitamins for two years. Three of the four bottles I have bought recently have such a strong fish smell that I cannot consume them. Unfortunately I will not be buying these anymore. If you get a good (not fishy) batch, these are great-no smell or taste and good benefits. But, if you get a bad batch, it's horrible and a waste of money. I am sad that I have to find a different brand, but it's not worth the risk of getting bad ones.
