Q: When I wash the kettle with soap and water and use a towel to dry the inside, there are dark grey smudges that stain my white towel. Is the inside stainless steel? Why is it leaching?

A: The Primula Stewart Kettle is stainless steel and will not leach. We do recommend washing the kettle before use to remove any dust from shipping and warehouse storage.

You get what you pay for
I've had the kettle around 6 months. First of all, the handle is NOT cool touch. You definitely need a potholder or the like. Secondly, the product is poorly made. As I heated water today, I heard a weird clinking sound. Upon investigating, the cheap plastic spout cover had melted, and the metal disk fell off. You can see the melted plastic all around the spout. Time for a new kettle, not going to cheap out this time.

Black Soot
After a couple of days of using this product, when I would wipe out the inside witih a paper towel to dry it, the paper towel would come out covered in black stuff. I tried again with the same result. I don't know if this black stuff is toxic.

Check inside before filling!
I've had this tea kettle for less than a year, and don't use it very often. Tonight I took the lid off and saw a large rust spot at the seam. There are a couple of smaller ones starting to grow but this is the largest. Thankfully it was less than $10 because it's going straight in the trash!
