Best 70-200 f/2.8 they've ever made
There's nothing I can say about the lens that hasn't already been said: handy for a great number of situations and a must-have for most professionals. That you already know. What you might NOT know is that this one is super sharp, has no chromatic aberration, and is sharp even on the R7, where you get a 112-320 f/4. So it's GREAT paired with the R7 (or any of the other APS-C bodies) for outdoor sports and some wildlife photography! If you've got the money for it then this is the one to have.

Surprise, surprise!
The original RF70-200mm F2.8 L USM is one of the best lenses I've ever owned, and it's portability is unmatched in its class. So I had absolutely no interest in the RF70-200 "Z" version... until I tried it. It is faster-focusing, sharper, and requires much less barrel rotation to zoom from one end of its range to the other. Granted, it's not as short as the original RF70-200 "at rest," yet it is also nothing short of amazing.

Upgraded Pro Workhorse
Well you have watched all the YouTube reviews and read all the FB posts and Forum reviews. If you want an RF 2.8 it really isn't any "better" than it's predecessor in terms of image quality but here's what I agree with. Definitely more balanced. Definitely a nicer throw. And possibly a split second quicker AF. As anyone that shoots for business knows a 70-200 2.8 is mandatory. This is just the most modern updated user friendly in the RF lineup and it's really good and I expect the internal zoom will help it take a beating and last long.

This has kicked my sports photography into overdrive!
For a sports (action, not volume) photographer, the 70-200mm F2.8 is the standard, must-have, use every day lens. The improvement in my images is PHENOMENAL. I first picked up a camera on October 31, 2022. After purchasing this lens at Imaging USA 2025 (9 months ago), the quality has been tripled or even quadrupled. The price tag is not that much higher than the non-Z RF 70-200mm, and every penny spent will come back to you exponentially. Highly, HIGHLY recommended. For reference, my daily bodies are the R6MII and the R6. I also have an R5 that is mainly used for portraits/sportraits.

Pull the trigger!
I was on the fence for some time but finally decided to pull the trigger, and I am so glad I did. This lens is incredible....I use this with my R5. I am not a pro. I love photography and my kids both play college sports (my daughter plays volleyball and my son is a pitcher). I have become the team photographer by default. I also love nature photography.....ok, with that said, let's talk about this lens. It is fast! GREAT focus and ULTRA sharp. My images are so clean, and 2.8 makes it great....I'm sure you have read multiple reviews, as I did. One thing they did not mention is that the ability to zoom in and out quickly, steadily and with one finger allows me to catch some really great action shots. It didn't take much practice to get this down, but it made a HUGE difference in being able to move the camera from pitcher to outfield to 1st bast, etc. I can shoot in electronic shutter and get just the right shot. Paired with the 2x converter, I have pretty much all I need...and the ability to shoot at 400mm at 5.6 is really great. The images are spectacular and the bokeh is great. Image stabilization seemed unnecessary to me until I put the 2x....what a difference! The only realistic negative (cost is a negative, but now that I have used it for a couple of months, it was worth it!) is the weight, especially with the 2x. Between the camera, grip, etc., this gets heavy, especially when we have double headers. Get a good monopod and your life will get much better (and your arm will thank you). I can easily say this is the best lens I have ever purchased. It is so good that I'm strongly considering the 24-70 Z (maybe next year). This lens has taken me to the next level. It is a game changer!

Nice!
New to this lens, but love the internal focusing. Lots of experience with the older EF70-200 lens, so a bit of an adjustment to learn new positions for focus and zoom rings. Seems to integrate well with the R5M2.

Take a leap of faith! It will pay for itself.
This was my first 70-200mm lens. And it’s definitely worth it. Used it for the first time during the Bank of America Chicago Shamrock Shuffle. And because of the new improvements on this lens. Might keep rate was by far greater than many other lenses in my arsenal. Even at the start of the race, when the lighting was low. The majority of my pictures were keepers. The hardest part now, is picking the best of.

Fantastic Upgrade to a Great Lens
Finally upgraded from the EF 70-200 F2.8 L MII to the RF Z version and what a difference. Super sharp, super quiet, super fast, lighter, and the collar rotation is super smooth. Subject tracking and switching focus from one subject to another is much faster. Well worth the price.
