Summer Brain Quest : Between Grades 1 & 2 (Paperback) - by Megan Butler

My son loves the summer brain quest series! He asks to work on it and the sticker map is so motivating that he doesn’t like stopping! My only complaint with this particular book is that some pages ask questions about a story, without providing the story to read first. For example: for Cinderella, they ask the kids to “draw each character to show her point of view”, with boxes for things like “Draw a picture of the fairy godmother helping Cinderella get to the ball”. If a child isn’t familiar with the story, they have absolutely no context or story to refer to in order to answer the question. On another page, it randomly asks them to “write a sentence about what Puss in Boots might do next”, but never says anything about who Puss in Boots is or what he’s currently doing. The kids are asked to include two words to complete their answer, but it’s just confusing without context. On a whole, a great activity workbook, but some oversights on the editing.

My daughter loves brain quest.

Daughter loves doing this as a regular summer activity, and she is not usually an eager student. The sticker rewards that go on the path and also (due to teacher neighbor’s inspo) small “prize” she gets for finishing a level are super motivating. The colorful pages also help keep her interested. These have been very on-level with where she has been and needs to be challenged after K and 1st grade

This workbook is proving to make learning fun and engaging for my son; he says he loves this compared to abcmouse since I have him doing both this summer. With the pandemic I was afraid his having missed out on full on class instruction for last 2 months of school that he'd start 2nd grade behind but with these lessons I know this wont be the case. I'm also including youtube short videos to supplement topics like odd/even numbers, parts of plants, etc. I totally recommend this purchase. Even helps with the summer boredom; lessons don't seem so much like work but instead play (while learning)! Just purchased the card game as well, can hardly wait to receive!
