Maybe Too Late In The Fall
I live in Missouri and have Fescue. I might have overseeded with the Scotts® Turf Builder® Thick'R Lawn® Sun & Shade too late in the Fall. We had a dog days summer that went into mid-September, so I decided to wait until October to seed, then weekends slipped away and early October turned into late October. We have had some good soaking rains since I seeded, so fingers crossed I see some sprouts popping soon.

We're sorry to hear you're not thrilled with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade, and we appreciate you letting us know. You should start seeing germination in 7-14 days under ideal growing conditions. This product should only be applied for overseeding a lawn and not to bare ground. The amount of seed in this mix is for overseeding and will not fill in a bare area. If this is applied to a bare area the seedings will appear sparse. Our regular grass seed recommends 3 times the amount of seed for a new lawn compared to overseeding an existing thin lawn. Therefore this applies about 1/3 the seed that would be need for a new lawn. We want you to feel good about using our products. That's why we offer a product guarantee. If, for any reason, you're not happy with the results after using this product, you're entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. If you need anything else, please give us a shout at 888-270-3714.

Good grass seed!
I got lucky - put the grass seed down just as we finally got sone much needed rain! The cool weather is helping, too. I expect to be able to cut the new grass in another 2-3 weeks.

We're sorry to hear you're disappointed with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know. We want you to feel confident in our products, so we're here to help. Temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60- and 80-degrees Fahrenheit (15-26 degrees Celsius). Southern seed types (bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, bahiagrass, etc.) need soil temperatures of at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), with air temperatures in the 80's or higher (21 degrees Celsius or above). Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low nighttime temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination. We stand behind our products, which is why we offer a product guarantee. If, for any reason, you're not happy with the results after using this product, you're entitled to get your money back. (Limitations apply.) If you need further assistance, please give us a shout at 888-270-3714.

Did not work
This product did nothing for my grass. I’ve been using this for the last 7 years to overseed my yard. I always ended up with a nice thick yard of grass. This year, nothing. It’s like I never put anything down. I think that Scott’s has changed the ingredients used.

Hi, we're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick' R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions. It will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. We recommend for temperatures to be consistently in the 65+°F range for cool season grasses. Cool night-time temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times per day to keep the seeds moist, until seed germinates. Then, we recommend watering about 1-1 1/2" per week as needed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Terrible results...uhghhhh
Not unlike some of the other folks, I purchased and applied as directed, watered consistently and am seeing very sparse results almost 4 weeks later. I am not happy with the way this product has performed. My conclusion is that sometimes you get a good batch and other times you don't...inconsistent at best...not worth the money or time I put in...Will look to other sources!

No grass yet, it's been 3 months!
I bought a bag of Scotts Turf Builder, sun and shade mix to reseed an area of our lawn that had been heavily walked on in the spring. I carefully prepared the area, raked and loosened the soil watered until the soil was moist and tilled in some lovely compost/topsoil. I over seeded the area and kept it moist until the rains started 2 months later. So far not a single blade of grass has grown. The ground temp was ideal and I followed directions to the letter. I am hoping something will sprout in the spring. I will have to try another brand of seed if nothing grows from this expensive purchase!

Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Terrible, don’t buy
Terrible, spent 4 days prepping the lawn raking prior to applying 2 bags on just the spots that needed it. After 3 weeks of watering only a few grass seedlings took.

Blotchy results at best
I purchased and applied this product (seed + fertilizer + conditioner) Sept 7 to 4 small sunken areas in my yard after filling them with fresh top soil. After watering them every day for weeks, all I have gotten is a few small blotchy areas of grass. The temps have been unseasonably warm in central Iowa too over the past month. I would have thought after getting a product with all 3 essentials plus sowing in fresh top soil that is over 3" deep, it would have produced a thick lawn. Nope! Completely disappointed in a name brand that should deliver the best product. Looks like the name is just a name now. Don't waste your money.
