Mister Dog is the latest in the line of wholesome traditional stories provided by the Little Golden Books. Everyone I know loves the Little Golden Books because they don't have any messages that are subversive or hostile to tradition, unlike many modern children's books.

This book has very charming illustrations. It is however a bizarre overt example of 1950's propaganda. A shame that such a sweet story was twisted into a social control.
