This book was such a swoony historical romance set in the wild west. I really enjoyed how the author incorporated PTSD from the civil war with her characters. The character growth from both Brody and Savannah were perfect! I think my favorite part was when they had a picnic on the top of the mountain! I loved the romance, the setting, and the suspensful moments so much! Don't miss this book!

Whats not to love about a Christian cowboy romance story? This can be read as a stand alone story even though its part of the Colorado Cowboys series by this author. I really liked Savannahs spunk and determination to become a female vet and to help horses in need. She meets Brody and his brothers ranch team after they saved the life of an injured horse. I liked reading how the two of them loved animals and worked together on his ranch. I always enjoy reading about ranch and farming and the day to day operations. Great western, clean romance story! It was a little slow for me during parts but overall I enjoyed it. I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Brody McQuaid is broken - what he's seen and done has broken his spirit. Wild horses and his young niece seem to be the only thing that touches his heart. Until Savannah Marshall rides into town. She's fled a marriage she's not ready for and needs a place to work as a vet. The McQuaid ranch seems a perfect fit when a job is offered. Savannah soon learns her hiring has a twofold purpose help Brody and provide vet care. She just needs to be sure to not break Brody's heart when she leaves. To Tame A Cowboy is the third book in the Colorado Cowboy series, and a bit of time has passed since the series began. Brody and younger brother Dylan are causing trouble for the rest of the McQuaid family with their issues. And we get to enjoy Ivy's less than ladylike antics as she pokes and prods her brothers in her own way of caring. But at almost 17 years old, Ivy is well on her way to adding to Wyatt and Flynn's stress. This book takes a few twists and turns as it progresses, so you aren't quite sure if the end result will be what you are expecting. And the last few chapters definitely will have you scooting to the edge of your chair. I love how the last chapter is setting us up for the next book. Definitely a recommended read. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

To Tame a Cowboy is another example of author Jody Hedlund's amazing talent for creating characters that we'd like to know and giving them stories that we can't wait to read. Brody McQuaid bears deep scars from being imprisoned at Andersonville Prison during the Civil War, but he's still what a hero should be. Savannah Marshall's compassion for people and her deep love for animals makes her equally special. Throw in wild horses that need saving, Brody's special love for his adorable niece Flora, and then create some incredible romantic chemistry between Brody and Savannah. The results are pure magic! If you're like me and grew up watching TV westerns, you have your idea of the perfect cowboy. I fell in love with these McQuaid brothers in the first book of the Colorado Cowboys series, and this book has only made my admiration stronger. If you enjoy historical romantic fiction with a strong element of faith, do yourself a favor and read To Tame a Cowboy! I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

Love, love, love, love, love this book. If you have read the first two, you will swoon for this one. If you haven’t read the first two, you will swoon for this one (but I highly recommend the first two, too) I’ve been intrigued with knowing more about Brody. He survived the civil war, Gettysburg, several battles, war prison, and he has survivor’s guilt along with PTSD. He struggles through this story and your heart can’t help but reach for him. Savannah is a lady running from an undesirable marriage, but also looking to find herself a spot as a veterinarian, doing what she loves. The tension between these two is unreal, in the best way. Every time I leave a Jody Hedlund book I just shake my head wondering how she is able to release so many books and not one has disappointed me. I adore this book and I think it’s either tied with A Cowboy for Keeps (the first in the Colorado Cowboys series) or it’s officially my favorite Jody Hedlund book. Absolutely a must read. I’m ready for a reread! And also the last chapter, introducing Ivy’s story, wow. I am so excited for October. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

Having read and loved the first two books in the Colorado Cowboys series, I did not think the series could get any better. Then, along came Brody’s story—WOW! I was totally immersed in this book from first word to last! The narrative runs the gamut of the emotions from outspoken Ivy’s humorous matchmaking to Brody’s angst as he experiences recurrent war-related nightmares. Ms. Hedlund excels in bringing her richly drawn characters to life as they capture your heart and imagination. I love Brody and Savannah individually and as a couple and have added them to my favorite fictional couples list! The story moves quickly and flows smoothly with the author’s signature descriptive language which I enjoy so much. I appreciate the inspiring faith thread that is woven throughout the story. To Tame a Cowboy is a wonderfully entertaining, deeply absorbing, and intensely satisfying read. I highly recommend it especially for readers who enjoy action and adventure wrapped in sweet romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the third installment in the Colorado Cowboys Series and it’s Brody McQuaid’s -one of the five McQuaid Siblings- chance at his Happily-Ever-After. This was a touching and heartwarming story that melted my heart, especially because Brody was such a heartbroken character in need of healing, and Savannah was God’s instrument to bring that healing to him. Brody survived the Civil War, but he returned a shadow of the guy he was. What he did and experienced in war… no one can survive something like that and come out unscathed. What keeps him ticking, is the love of his adorable niece Flora and the work he does at “Healing Springs Ranch”, owned by two of his elder brothers. He breaks and tames wild horses roaming the area, and saves them from being killed by other Ranches who want to stop them from feeding from the open grass that feeds their cattle. Savannah Marshall’s passion is animals. She has worked as a veterinarian with her mentor for years in her family’s Ranch -the “Double L”- in Colorado. But her parents expect her to marry the Ranch’s manager. Her wedding is nearing and she wants to make her Daddy happy, especially after her brother’s tragic death, but she just can’t go on with a marriage she’s not sure about and with a man she doesn’t have feelings for. So, she decides to run away and get some fresh air to figure things out before it’s too late. And she ends South Park, where she meets Brody, who saves a mustang from being injured further by a cruel man. She tends to the horse, and when Brody discovers she has nowhere to go, and is a veterinarian, he asks his brother Flynn if they can hire her for the Ranch. Flynn knows his brother needs help in getting out of his isolation and thinks Savannah might be good to him, so he hires her and asks Brody to help her and accompany her in her visits to other ranches. As they get to know each other, Brody is besotted with her, and Savannah sees the kindhearted and compassionate man Brody is behind the walls he has erected to hide his pain. She wants to help him and free him from his fears and guilt. This story was so heart-tugging, touching and inspiring! The plot was very engaging from the first page, and it flowed chapter to chapter with great character development, a sense of adventure, danger, and the sweetest and most tender love story! The best thing were the characters! Savannah was so kind, sweet and I loved how she saw into Brody’s heart and grief, saw his amazing talent, and helped him see himself not as the shell of a man he felt he was after the war, but as a man loved unconditionally and redeemed and forgiving by a merciful and loving God. I loved her gentleness with animals, and her courage in trying to discover what God wanted for her and not yield to her family’s pressure, even if she wanted to protect them from more pain after they lost their son. Brody also wrapped around my heart. His love of his niece was so tender and endearing, and the way he tried to mask his pain with apparent roughness -except where Flora and Savannah were involved- tore at my heart too. His protectiveness of Savannah, and the way he also helped her see more clearly what she needed to do, was priceless. And I truly swooned at now he loved and cherished Savannah! The secondary characters were lovable too! I truly love the McQuaid’s (can’t wait for Ivy’s story) and I especially loved little Flora and her antics! The scene where she tucks Brody to bed is so sweet! I totally loved this story and definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Inspirational Historical Romances with great relatable characters! Author Jody Hedlund truly delivers a fantastic story once again!

A hurting veteran and a runaway bride find a change of perspective in the Colorado Mountains. Brody McQuaid returns from The War Between the States a changed man, haunted by what he had seen he struggles to adjust to civilian life, causing his family to worry. I loved how supportive Brody's family is, especially Flynn. Flora is just the cutest little thing, her relationship with Brody is just so stinking adorable. Brody has a big heart, but he has trouble pushing past the nightmares. Savannah has a gift for healing and a heart for the hurting. Despite her father's wishes she just cannot resign herself to marrying the man that her father has chosen for her. I loved how she fits right in with the McQuaid clan from the get go, her love for the animals, and her heart for others. Overall, this was an enjoyable historical romance, set against the beautiful but treacherous Colorado mountains. I appreciated the strong themes of family being there through thick and thin. I liked getting to revisit the McQuaid family, seeing Linea and Flynn happily married, and I am looking forward to what is in store for Ivy and Dylan, especially Ivy as she has always has a way of putting things outright. Great for fans of Western romantic reads and fans of Ms. Hedlund's previous books! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Second Chance Love!

3.5 stars "She hadn't minded the quietness. She'd learned over the years that wounded creatures often required more time and patience before being willing to trust. And she sensed Brody needed an extra dose of time and patience." Veterinarian Savannah Marshall is a runaway bride. Escaping a marriage that is riddled with doubts, Savannah pushes herself higher into the Colorado mountains; away from her father, away from her betrothal, away from all the expectations surrounding her future, and straight into the remote town of Fairplay, where she meets a man who changes her notions about .. . . . . well, just about everything. "Brody might have survived the war physically, but it damaged part of his soul.", Linnea McQuaid tells Savannah. Brody's family has taken a liking to Savannah, especially after his older brother Flynn notices the calming effect Savannah has on Brody while handling a wounded animal together. At least Savannah has secured gainful employment, albeit temporary, on the McQuaid ranch, while building up her reputation in the area. It's pretty obvious that Brody has a God-given gift with horses, and Savannah loves his passion for saving the area's beautiful wild mustangs. But there's another kind of passion brewing that Savannah has no idea how to manage. If you have ever visited Colorado, this setting sets the stage for a virtual vacation (or perhaps, picnic???) across the majestic Rocky Mountains with their snow-covered peaks (even in the summer) and miles upon miles of ranch land along their base; clear rivers and streams, and the most beautiful sunsets. But the weather changes quickly . . . which Savannah and Brody are about to find out. Enjoy this over-the-top-and-back-down-again romance!

Jody Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboy’s series continues with the third book, To Tame a Cowboy. I have enjoyed the first two books in this series and this one is no different. Hedlund’s story of the broken Civil War veteran turned cowboy and the lovely female veterinarian is an emotional and inspirational addition to the series. I enjoyed every minute of my trip to South Park and felt the cold of the snow and the wind in the manes of the mustangs that roam the area in Hedlund’s writing. I loved the feisty Savannah who is on the run from a marriage she doesn’t want and is a master at the career that she does want. Brody has so many memories of the war that keep him from truly living as the man he was meant to be. Hedlund expertly brings them together in a story of intense feeling and love. I believe that this story could be read as a stand-alone but is enriched by reading the other two books in the series. The author provides enough information of the back story that the reader will not be confused by characters that have appeared in previous novels. I highly recommend this book to readers of clean historical fiction. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions stated are my own.

My Favorite of the Series So Far!

To Tame a Cowboy by Jody Hedlund is the third book in the Colorado Cowboys series, and it has become a favorite of mine from this author! Savannah and Brody’s story is one of imperfections, scars, and brokenness but also about the beauty that comes through true healing and redemption. Brody is a strong, handsome, hot-tempered cowboy with a soft heart for helping the helpless. While his memories of the war are heartbreaking, and his journey of healing emotional, I enjoyed watching his heart come back to life again. The balance between Brody’s brokenness and the healing nature of Savannah drew me into this story completely and made me fall in love with their romance. Savannah is an amazing young woman. I loved her gentle nature and her gift of seeing the beauty among the broken–especially the way she encouraged Brody as he fought his demons. The characters’s inspirational journeys were not over-bearing but perfectly blended into the story and made me think about my own faith. I love it when a novel can challenge me as I’m reading. Overall, I fell in love with Brody and Savannah’s story. Fans of historical romance (especially those who love stories set in the West) will want this book on their TBR. And I can’t wait until the next installment with Ivy and Jericho. I can already see the sparks flying! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

To Tame a Cowboy is a wonderful story of healing and hope with a good dose of passionate romance and important Christian lessons that warm the heart. Brody McQuaid is a protective, sensitive, and kindhearted hero who is healing from his time serving in the Civil War. When he meets Savannah, the intelligent veterinarian who is running from an arranged marriage, the attraction is instant and the romance that follows could make you swoon. Add in some dangerous elements of the Colorado wilderness and you have a perfect romantic cowboy adventure! I loved the way Jody Hedlund respectfully depicted mental health issues that come from trauma, and how she brought Brody through a time of healing through the grace of God and supportive family. This may be my favorite book in the series so far, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good read with romance, adventure, and a swoon-worthy hero! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review, and my thoughts are my own. I really did love it!

Once again, I found myself completely engrossed in one of Ms. Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboys books and unable to put it down! I was a huge fan of Savannah and her tender heart toward animals and broken or wounded creatures of all kinds. Brody was a perfect blend of strength and brokenness, just enough of each to keep you completely enamored with his character and wanting to stick as closely by his side as you possibly can throughout the entire adventure I LOVED this book! Author Jody Hedlund is a very talented author who possesses the ability to both make you care about her characters fiercely and bring the settings to life in a vivid way that drops you straight into the middle of the mud and dust and snowstorms of her imagination. I couldn’t recommend this enough! Excellent book!
