Random mold growth??

i have had this product for over a year and a few months ago, it randomly started to grow mold despite the fact that nothing was inside of it. i washed it and let it thoroughly air dry for 3 days and also wiped it down with a dry, clean rag. It has now grown mold over 6x since. Ended up having to throw it away which sucks because it is very cute.
