The Ember mug is highly appreciated for its ability to keep beverages warm for extended periods, making it a favorite among coffee lovers. However, many guests have expressed concerns about the durability of the charging coasters, which often fail due to design flaws. Despite these issues, the mug's functionality and the convenience of having multiple charging stations are highlighted as significant benefits, making it a worthwhile investment for those who enjoy hot drinks throughout the day.

Charging coaster is a poor design.
The cup/mug staying hot is a great idea. Unfortunately, the pins on the charging coaster fatigue after a few months. You are able to pull the pins up to make it work for a few weeks until they will no longer work. Ember needs to redesign the charging coaster. I’ve owned two charging coasters. Same issue with both.

Terrible charging base
Pin stuck after minimum use - Terrible charging base using spring loading pins that stick, and contact lost. Waste of money if cannot re-charge mug unless you have a functional base. Fix the product - way too many complaints all over social media!

Coaster Charging Pin failed.
Coaster Charging Pin failed. It’s been two years and three charging pins have stopped working. The replacement charging coasters cost more than the cup itself. Disappointed.

Poor feature
I like embers however I have gone through (3) charges with one cup… the charges are definitely defective and it has been this way for Several years… embers has failed to do anything about it of improve their chargers… again I read the same issue over and over with the pins but the replacements are the same and fail the same… if they fix the problem it would be a good product… if not don’t waist your money!!!

Great cup, lousy charger.
I've had 3 ember mugs, One 1st gen and now two 2nd gen. The coasters are the weak link as the springs on the charging points stop working. I've had the newest one less than a year and already the coaster won't charge. The 2nd gen coasters are worse than the original You need to go wireless charging. I.love the cup but, unfortunately, this will be my last one unless the charging technology changes

stuck post
Love my ember and like many of these posts my charger stopped charging. Did the vinegar therapy which fixed the stuck post problem but only for a few months. Tried it again but no success the second time. I am ordering another charger.

Poor design and frustrating
I’m at my whits end with this. I love my Ember cup but I’m 4 cups in 2 years in and this charging pad is constantly not working. I’m sorry I’m not going to keep getting a small discount on this rebuy for the same problems over and over. The mugs also flake on the inside.

Charger Prong issues
I’ve had to replace the coaster charger 3x. The company knows there is a quality control issue with the prongs and has yet to resolve it. I love the mug when it works. But the mug is useless without a working coaster.

No-Charging coaster
I have purchased 3 different mugs. Love them all. I even purchased on for a relative. But the charging disc doesn't. I now have multiple charging discs that no longer work and I'm going to have to order another.

Terrible Support
I have an older Ember and have had to replace the charging coaster once in 2023. Ember support was super when I contacted them in 2023. I've now contacted support again (June 2025) with the same problem and they've been terrible. I've emailed 4 or 5 times, they've handed me off to several different people, all of whom have been pleasant, but none of whom have done more than say hello and tell me to submit information that I already submitted almost a month ago. The level of support I have received has been exceptionally poor, which is a complete change from 2023. This isn't rocket science. I know what's wrong, as I've had it before and I need a new charging coaster. I like my Ember, but would hesitate to buy another at this point, as the chargers seem to die regularly and there is now essentially no support.

Coaster/Cable
I bought this mug for my 80 year old mom as a Christmas gift. Stopped working so she threw out the coaster. Still under warranty but had to FIGHT with company to get a replacement ONLY TO FIND OUT they are only sending her a replacement coaster WITH NO CHARGING CABLE!! You can't even purchase JUST the cable.

Charger is CRAP - Not actually a coaster
The pin design on this charger is the worst possible one. They always break, even when I'm extremely careful to avoid moisture on it. If it can't handle moisture, it shouldn't be called a coaster, since you can't use it while it's full. I have to leave the cup off of the charger while I'm using it, then charge in between uses. It would be way more useful if I could leave the cup on the coaster 24/7 without worrying about moisture. The pins always break and I don't know why they can't figure out a new sustainable design unless they see it as a way to keep getting mroe revenue from people having to replace their coasters all the time.

Charging Coaster Issue Unresolved
I, too, love my Ember. And, however, am experiencing the prong problem that so many others are experiencing with the charging coaster. Except that the vinegar fix has not worked for me. Unless someone can offer an alternate fix, I will be forced to buy a new one once the black is back in stock. Any help is appreciated.

Ember, please fix your recessed pin issue!
I love my Ember mug but they have got to fix the issue with the coasters. As many others have mentioned, over time one or both pins will get stuck in the recessed position and lose contact with the mug's charging ring. I'm going to try Steve's vinegar fix to see if that works as I've already bought replacement coasters twice.

Bad charge
One of my prongs won’t make contact with the not. Therefore it doesn’t charge.

Vinegar Hack Works!
Big thanks to Steve who wrote the "How to fix those coaster contact pins" article 3 mo ago! I had a recessed pin on my mug and tried his vinegar method (simply place a drop of vinegar on the recessed pin and let it sit for half an hour). It worked like a charm! And even better, after leaving the pin to soak in the vinegar, I didn't even need to pull the recessed pin into place. It just popped up on its own. My Ember Mug is back to charging as I write this. I highly recommend this hack if one or both pins have recessed. And if there's one thing I NEVER want to go without, it's my Ember. It is the one thing I can count on during my long workday to soothe my soul. Thanks to Ember for creating an excellent product and Steve for helping me stay soothed!
