For all of us
I read this holding my newborn daughter, and found words that were for my mother, too, and for my youngest sister, and more than once for me. These prayers are tender and challenging. Some are for specific days and circumstances and others are as impossibly expansive as trying to imagine God. They attend to broken places in the female experience (maybe particularly in the US) and fill in the gaps with gold. I’m grateful, and commend them as worth your attention.

Uplifting for Women of All Ages
This collection of uplifting prayers covers all the traditional stages of a daughter’s life, plus so many challenging situations they may encounter. I got emotional reading prayers for healthy boundaries, intersectional justice, and times of depression. How incredible to specifically focus a prayer on my daughter’s activism, felt safety, and changing body. I especially love the feminist perspective of these prayers that shatter the “norm” like keeping women out of church leadership and focusing on purity culture to a fault. This is a book I am already filling with highlighting & notes, and will keep picking up as my daughter enters new seasons of her life. Plus, I used this book as inspiration for prayers for my friends who are currently experiencing miscarriage, weddings, and career moves.

Beautiful Book!
This book is unique. It's moving, it's spiritual, it's topical, it's timeless, it's lyrical . . . As I read it, along with thinking of saying these prayers for my two daughters, I wanted to rewrite them just a little so I could say them for myself. :-) The topics of the prayers are so relatable. In addition to being used for prayer this book would make a great prompt for journaling or for discussion in a small group. It also would make a great gift for anyone expecting a baby girl!

Great for everyone
As a mom of two daughters and 1 son who will have women he cares about, this book helps put into words what I’ve been wanting to say and speak over my kids and other females in my life. It helps put anxiety to rest with truth filled prayers that empower me and help me empower others. Highly recommend for anyone not just moms of daughters

Meaningful for anyone who is a daughter or has a daughter
I'll admit - I hesitated to read this one. I don't have daughters and struggled with infertility before having my son. Because of this, parenting and mothering books can be triggering. But not Shannon's. The prayers are poetry - beautifully and intentionally crafted. The prayers cover everything from genuine and deep female friendships to fortieth birthdays and equal pay. I felt so seen in each one. Read as a whole, her words and dreams for her daughter put words to dreams, desires, and gratitude I have for myself but never fully articulated. I'm so glad I have this in hard copy to have as a reference. I've already found myself taking pictures of her words to share with friends in moments when my own words don't feel fully adequate. Just beautiful and would be a meaningful present for anyone who has a daughter or is a daughter.
