Incredible Work, but not for the faint of heart
This book is almost a thousand pages and weighs over 2 lbs, so you really need to be sure before you take the plunge. Read Ms. Tokarczuk's "Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead" to see if you like her writing. And then you'll know that this book is for you. This book is biblical in its own right. It covers so much, so much more than a historical figure and his story. It's about a people, no, about various peoples and societies and classes. It's very human, in that it gives so many viewpoints and life stories. It's about poverty and riches. It's about love and loss. Nations and religions. And so much more. Don't rush this. If you read The Books of Jacob, just settle in. Take your time. Stay a while and you may find that as you fascinate your way through, you don't really want this novel to end.
