The sweet spot in the Garmin lineup.
I purchased an Edge 540 as an upgrade from my Edge 130 (damaged). The 540 has been fantastic. I like the color screen, integrated nav and improved functionality over the original unit. And the best part about the Edge 540 is the upgraded battery life over the smaller unit I had. I liked it so much, I bought an edge 540 Solar for my other bike. It’s everything like about the regular 540 with the bonus of solar power to supplement the battery life. I know there are nicer models in the Garmin lineup, but the 540/540 Solar are the sweet spot and an excellent value for the dollar. Adding the wheel speed and cadence sensor make for a great package that’s not prohibitively expensive. And you still have the option of adding a smart watch and the varia tail lights with built in radar. You can grow into the 540 line as needed. Be safe out there!

Level up my training!
I love my Garmin Edge 540. I use it on every ride—it’s simple, reliable, and keeps me accountable to my training goals. Great battery life and just enough data to help push the pace without overcomplicating things. 🚴♀️

Solid product!
Really hard to set up... (Touch screen is easier to set up). After you figure it out you can use it. Works great and it finds sensors fast. Battery life is awesome.

My new Garmin 540 Edge
Completed my first gravel ride with my new Edge 540 and it was flawless. I LOVED being able to see climbs ahead of me and the grade % during the climb. The "sharp turn ahead" warning was a nice surprise, too! So far...I love this new device.

Great compact cycling computer
I got this a few months ago to replace my old Edge 510. I liked the old one, I've used it for many years. I replaced it with its younger brother. What a progress! The new one has bigger better screen, the GPS functions are fantastic. Despite grey winter days, the solar function keeps the battery fully charged. I'm extremely happy with it.

The best thing you will ever buy
Thought I was cool already with my Garmin Edge 130, but I have elevated my coolness by getting the Garmin edge 540 Solar. I have never felt so cool in my life. Highly recommend.

All you ever need in a bike computer
I had a Garmin Edge 530 for six years and decided it was time for a replacement. I decided on the Edge 540 Solar and am glad I did. I have to admit, it took some getting used to. The menus are a little different, but once I got over that hurdle, I love the many features and functionality and would heartily recommend any serious rider try it.

Works great!
This is my first bike computer so it took me a bit to figure it out. Still really don't know what all of the options do but so far it works great! Found some good routes with the app and sent them to the unit fairly easily. Kind of wish I went with the touch screen but the buttons work once you figure them out. So far I really like the unit.

Great head unit! Buuttt…
This is a great head unit, it bright, strong signal, has a HUGE list of features, and that’s where it loses a star. There are so many things this device can do, I can’t imagine how the will ever come up with a 550. The issue is, I don’t need that many features. Sure you can turn many of not all of them off but I shouldn’t have to. I prefer for them all to be off and let me add what I want. I don’t want segments for example. Turning them off is a challenge. To clean up the Home Screen I ended up calling support. The navigation is a world apart from my 520Plus and I found it difficult to manage. I’m getting the hang of it but it’s a steep learning curve. Watch videos about this unit, then go get one. If you get one first you’ll be confused. After watching the videos you’ll still want one but you’ll better understand how to manage it.

Garmin? More like Garm-win!
I've tried a few cycling computers from Garmin and I've gotta say this gets the job done and more. The solar aspect ensures that your battery won't quit on you when you aren't ready to quit, yourself. There are so many functions and features that you can tailor the display to what you need and don't need. The app helps a ton in that department. The functions featured in this computer are applicable for pro and amateurs alike. Well worth the investment in a do-it-all headunit.

Great features & wonderful battery life
Picked this up for the Birthday Sale after hearing my friend rave about his 530. It's a massive upgrade from the 130 Plus--the navigation is easy to follow, it has a great heads up display, and it syncs well with my Varia. My only complaint is that all of the menus get a bit convoluted, but there's good help documentation online and I'm sure it's just part of the learning curve. Super excited to keep riding with it!

Great device - learning curve
I'm really happy now with my Garmin Edge 550 Solar. I have a GPSMap 64S and a GPSMap 65S. I assumed the Edge 540 would have similar functionality. When I grasped that it is really a smart watch in a different housing I found what I wanted to use.

Perfect size and ClimbPro works well
I have had 3 weeks of use with the Garmin 540 Solar and it has been very helpful for my rides. Originally, I was planning to purchase a larger Garmin like the 1040 as I was concerned about the size of the map on a small screen. The 540 has turned out to be a good size as it fits neatly on the bar stem, while the clarity of the screen provides good map images. I also broadcast my heart rate to the 540 from my Garmin watch which I use as a HR sensor. It's easy to load up route files to the device. The ClimbPro has been very beneficial for taking the anxiety out of climbs when riding an unfamiliar route. The visual automatically pops on the screen so that I can adjust my effort and gearing for the upcoming grade.

LOVE it
After losing my Garmin Edge 530 in a MTB "incident" I purchased the 540 and I absolutely love it. The fact that it pairs automatically with my Garmin Varia as soon as I turn it on is time saving and reassuring. The camera starts running automatically. I also love that the default setting on the device scrolls though various screens when I'm riding. The battery life is something I'm not sure about yet. It does not seem to me that the solar aspect is making that much of a difference - but I'm still getting used to it. So it's NEW in that regard.

Not user-friendly.
The Edge computer is not user-friendly for someone who has never had a bike computer. There is no user manual. Please avoid buying this if this will be your first time using a bike computer

Button selection could be a little more intuitive. It’s fine after several rides, you get used to it. Fix the hazard warning though, There should be a delete when the hazard no longer exists!!
