DO NOT BUY
DO NOT BUY! The packaging is awful; the cardboard used on the packaging is inserted inside the knife slot and it gets stuck in there and is nearly impossible to remove.

Hello mk. We are sorry to hear about your experience with the 6" Utility Knife. The packaging design uses protective cardboard inserts to help prevent blade movement and damage during shipping. In some cases, the insert may become lodged in the blade slot, which can make removal difficult. If this happens, try gently loosening the insert by sliding a thin, flat tool (such as a plastic card or similar non-metallic object) along the edge of the slot to release the cardboard. Avoid using excessive force or sharp objects that could damage the knife or cause injury. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our product team for review. If you have any further questions and would like us to investigate this further, please contact us directly through Live Chat on www.greenworkstools.com or call us on 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). Please have your unit with you along with the model and serial number to complete troubleshooting to ensure quick resolution is provided. We are happy to help you further.

Awful
This is the worst packaging I have ever seen and I should have read the reviews before buying. I didn’t think I would need to, a box cutter should be straight forward. But they package this with thick cardboard inside the blade opening and it will not come out. I just broke two pairs of tweezers trying to.

Hello RQ. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that the packaging material has been a challenge. The internal blade carriage and retention mechanism are precision-fitted, so if cardboard becomes wrapped around the blade holder or slide track, it can be difficult to remove without partial disassembly. For safety reasons, we do not recommend attempting to force the mechanism or pry internally, as this can damage the blade lock or slider assembly. You may try the following safe steps: Fully retract the blade and engage the lock. Remove the blade (if accessible) as-per the instruction manual. Gently tap the handle against a firm surface to dislodge loose debris. Use compressed air (if available) to clear the internal channel. If the packaging is tightly wrapped around the internal carriage and cannot be removed without disassembly, we recommend contacting Greenworks customer success for assistance or replacement evaluation rather than attempting to open the housing, as this could void warranty coverage. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, accessible by clicking “Chat Now” in the bottom corner of your screen, Chat with a Live Agent or by calling 1-888-909-6757. We appreciate the feedback regarding the packaging design. Input like this helps identify areas for improvement to prevent similar issues in the future.

Cardboard packaging gets stuck inside the blade slot. No matter what I do, I cannot get it out. I tried using tweezers to no avail. The cardboard is wrapped around something and cannot come out unless you take the product apart. Poor packaging.

Hello Summer. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that the packaging material became lodged inside the blade channel of the Greenworks 6" Utility Knife. Awful product in horrible packaging.
Just buy a snapoff boxcutter, not this junk.

Tough to get the blade out
They stick the cardboard with the barcode in the slot where the blade is. When you pull it out, some of the cardboard is stuck in the blades slot, and it’s very tough for the blade to come out. It is the opposite of smooth. The stuck cardboard is too small to get out, and so it’s stuck there. This is a very dumb design idea, and I'm returning it. Don't waste your time.
