Q: Are Pukka tea bags plastic free?

submitted by Green - 2 years ago
  • A: Tea companies have recently come under scrutiny for the use of polypropylene, a plastic used to heat-seal the edges of teabags. Pukka doesn’t use this kind of material. Instead, we use a simple stitch of organic cotton and a unique folding process. This means we don’t need to use polypropylene to hold our teabags together and our teabags are therefore free from plastic. We were the first company to ever use organic strings to hold our teabags together without the need of a metal staple or polypropylene. We thank you for reaching out!

Q: Were the elderberry tea bags or atleast the elderberries already boiled before? Because elderberries can be poisonous if not boiled first.

submitted by Isaac - 3 years ago
  • A: That is a great question! Berries destined for our teas are dried in whole bunches in a large hot air dryer at about 45°C for 2 days.

It tastes like nothing. I really struggled to taste the flavor. Waste of money bc it wasn’t cheap tea. Twinings version of this tea is amazing!

    Lemon Ginger Manuka Honey Tea

I purchased the Lemon Ginger Manuka Honey Tea and thought it had a good flavor. I liked the mild sweetness with a little spice from the ginger, but for some reason each time I fixed a cup the bag would leak tea leaves into the cup. Not a huge deal, just not sure what I did to cause that to happen each time. I tried not stirring and definitely not squeezing…left it for the allotted time, but they still leaked even though the actual bag wasn’t torn. Bottom line: I still like it and I’ll continue buying it…hopefully, just a fluke with that particular box of tea.

This is the most disappointing tea I have ever had (as a lifelong avid tea drinker). It tastes like someone had lemon tea one time over a decade ago and tried to recreate the flavor from memory. There is absolutely no ginger, neither it’s flavor or spicy-ness, and the only presence of manuka honey is on the package. The lesser ingredients like licorice root, elderflower, and tumeric root are also in such small quantities they shouldn’t have even bothered to put it in the tea. All around, a very disappointing tea from pukka, especially when compared to their peace tea.

Flavor is on the mild side, but if you brew it for 10 minutes or longer the flavor is good! I like strong tea so I leave the tea bag in my mug as a drink it. 4 stars because it is more pricey and I was hoping for a bolder flavor.

I don’t normally write reviews but had to on this one, I almost didn’t buy it for the bad reviews but decided to give it shot since the bags don’t have plastic like some other brands. I was discouraged by the smell… but this tea is absolutely delicious. I love it with a little honey, I will say it needs much longer to steep (for my taste) than many other teas. I like around 12 minutes. Don’t be off put by the smell, this tea is creamy and sweet and oh-so relaxing.

I suppose it’s OK if you’re drinking it just because you’re not feeling well. But tea is my typical go to beverage. This one was kind of bland with an odd aftertaste. I can’t imagine choosing to drink this one over 100 other more tasty teas.

    Nearly Flavorless

The instructions on the box say to use boiling water with the green tea, even though this is supposedly 34% Sencha. IMO, that's a bad sign. I used 175℉ water as one does with almost all green teas and let it steep for ~5 minutes or so. The color was not the lovely golden green typically seen with green teas, but an unfortunate brown. I reserve judgment and take a sip, only to find that it has basically no flavor of any kind. The kicker is that this insult to green tea is actually the most I've ever spent on a box of green. Not only will I not repurchase, I'm bringing this box back to the store to get a refund.

Such a delicious tea! Every morning, I make a large thermos with two bags of this tea, and a couple slices of fresh ginger. I drink it over the course of the day. Not only do I treasure my morning ritual- it’s totally helped regulate my digestive system and balance my gut bacteria. It’s so delicious and fragrant- it helps with digestion and nausea, balances blood sugar, is great for your heart and immune system, helps joint pain- and it tastes like fall in a cup! I need this tea the way a lot of people need coffee.

This has been my all time favorite tea for YEARS! I’ve shared and recommended it to so many people. It’s ultimate comfort, a happy warm friend in the morning and evening. The package recently had a redesign and with it the tea recipe changed, too. Instead of the delicate sweet balance of licorice, vanilla and chamomile, the overwhelming smell is disgustingly strong fennel. Gone is the sweetness. How is this even marketed as the same tea? It’s so different and I’m so crushingly sad about it.

I did some research and found this tea for my reflux. I have awful acid reflux and do not want to take pills but this tea helps calm bad acid reflux when Tums do not work -its amazing! The licorice flavor comes through the most but when your reflux is as bad as mine you do not care so much. I recommend for digestion issues!
