Q: How do you get it to stay snug? Everything seems fine until I finish turning the tightener, then it relaxes about 1/4" and falls over.

Q: The opening I want to use this in is exactly 42", I see this expands to 42", but will it actually be able to be locked in place with the opening the exact measurement this expands to?

A: No, this gate only goes to 42 inches wide. This is a pressure mounted gate so by adjusting the bar that attached the two panels will cause the pressure to keep the gate in place.

Q: In a previous Q&A you state this gate is not appropriate for top of stairs. What is the reason why? I am looking for a top of the stairs gate for an 11 mo. old, is there a type you recommend?

A: We do not recommend the use of any pressure mounted gate at the top of stairs for safety and security reasons. We would recommend that you use a hardware mounted gate.

Could not figure out. "Turning" knob does not turn once the lock is in the pegs. From other reviews, it looks like it has to be mounted. I have a 20 year old pet gate that still works but this one wouldn't work for one second. I am returning it.

Does not work… at all! Wanted a tension baby gate that did not require hardware or putting screws in the door frame. Did not see in the description that it came with hardware so I was not happy when I received it. Tried it without putting the screws and it falls right over.., so disappointed. This is my second “tension” baby gate that has not worked as advertised.

I wish I hadn't wasted my money. If you are fine with screwing the little pieces into your doorway and using it in just one place, that's great but it does not work well for me since I bought it to use for my dogs. I did not know when I bought it that it can only be used with the little black pieces that come with it that holds the gate into place. I need to be able to use a gate in more than just one doorway. I have had to move these little black pieces and screw them into other doorways to be able to use it somewhere else

It’s a nice looking gate yet it lost its tension after one week of use. The top will be flush with the wall and the bottom won’t be. Then it slides down or is loose enough for the pet to knock it over.

We've been using this step-over gate for about a year with our medium-size puppy. I love the fully adjustable feature (although I'll admit it took quite a learning curve for me to figure it out!). This "gate" is far superior to the other wood adjustable gates out there. I've used those before as well, and they break too easily and don't adjust fully. This one is still going strong. I'm buying a 2nd one to coat with a waterproof poly/coating and use in a shower stall to cordon off the end area to allow for easy puppy bathing. Right now she loves to dart to the other end where I can't easily reach her. I'll cover the adjustable mechanism with plastic and tape. I know it will fit easily as I've tested it with the first one.

I hadn't realized that it required pieces to be screwed to the wall. I probably won't use it too much becuase of the this and will keep looking for something better, not requiring mounting with screws.
