It’s a cute toy that entertains our 18 month with its variety of songs, calling Sesame friends, etc. I do think it’s loud. I had to read other reviews to see if they were hearing the loud shrieking sound too. One review says it’s when the Cookie Monster piece is placed behind the Elmo phone and that is 100% accurate. It’s like awful microphone feedback that we all cringe at.

If you want to hear Elmo screaming with a microphone in his mouth. This is for you!
Speaker is terrible. Loud screeching sound constantly. Bought one, the speaker went on it. Thought it was just bad luck... nope! Bought it again and within 6 months it sounds like Elmo is eating the microphone it's so scratchy and constantly cuts out. Not worth your money at all!

THE WORST TOY EVER. If it’s on its back, or if the phone is up to the speaker it makes this extremely loud screeching sound. Do NOT BUY!

Not worth the money
My toddler desperately wanted this for Christmas, and we're low income, so this was her nice gift. The child cannot even use it as a phone, Elmo does all the talking. If you put the phone back, it will ring, so she would pick it up and say hello, but at the same time the phone talks, so she's left just listening to the toy talk to it's self, and got bored with it immediately.

Why does it do this??
I got this for my 2 year old but somehow my 7 year old discovered if you place the phone to the back where the speaker is it will continuously make this awful screeching noise. Now my 2 year old won’t stop doing it so the whole thing is going to the trash.

Tetrible, loud squeal from speaker
This toy is super cute and my son loves it but there’s one fatal flaw that makes it a horrible toy. When the phone receiver gets close to the speaker on the back of the phone it makes a terrible high pitched squeal that’s so loud it’s deafening. I do not recommend this toy for that reason. In fact, I think they should recall the toy. Prolonged exposure to that noise can be harmful to a baby’s hearing. It was a Christmas present and we didn’t know it was defective until the day after Christmas when my son was playing with it in his play yard and we heard the noise.

Cute but DANGEROUS
This is actually a very cute and fun toy. Unfortunately my son almost choked twice on one of the coins. I threw out the coins and kept the phone booth. Hopefully they work on making the coins much larger.

Too simple fot price
This toy was very basic for the price. It doesn’t have very many bells and whistles for my 3 year old nephew. He had fun with it for maybe 30 minutes, as it only plays the same 3 voicemails and like 6 songs. A good toy for playing house maybe but not for independent play.

Great for learning numbers and words!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought I was excited for this but my daughter loves it! It keeps her entertained for quite a while and she has even learned her numbers and some words better! The sound quality is great and the battery life has been really good for as much as she has played with it. We love it!
