Sharp SMD2489ES 1.2 Cu. Ft. Stainless Microwave Drawer Oven

I had the last one for over ten years at the time we sold our house. My wife like the flip down concealed look of this display. Told her to go with what we had. She didn't listen. The flip down display broke. We have lived in the house almost two years. Shocked that all of the supports were thin pieces of plastic. Works good but CHEAPLY made. BUY WARRANTY if you must have this one. Surprised and now looking for another brand to replace. Sad they didn't make a built-in product better quality than this.

I love my Sharp microwave drawer. It's sleek and very functional.

We bought this microwave as part of a kitchen re-model. Replaced the over-the-range microwave we had for 30 years so we could install a power vent instead. This is a very convenient option instead of an over-the-range or countertop oven. We've been using it for about 3 months, and so far, we are very happy with it. The convenience was worth the premium cost, and Alexa compatibility is great. It heats foods evenly, even though there is no turntable. The HEIGHT of items that fit into the oven is limited--a few of my taller glasses don't fit in the oven, but a change in my daily habits fixed that. One minor complaint: while you can OPEN the oven with a voice command, you can't CLOSE the oven with one.

Had it for a few weeks, I like the drawer feature and hidden control panel. The one big negative is it's so loud. Ridiculous Loud.

Drawer style works well for me and could be because I am short and this works well for wheelchair user as well. The feature that you can just wave on the side of the microwave drawer to open is practical. I also like the feature of reheating because food is hot at the proper temperature and I do not have to guess the time I need to warm certain menu. Lots of one touch feature is very accurate and easy to follow such as melt butter, warm beverage, etc. Easy to clean in and out. So stylish.

We bought this microwave for our new home. I absolutely love it! Not having it on the counter is a huge plus. I haven't experienced any issues with it.

My drawer microwave is well located in the island of a newly renovated kitchen and works beautifully.

The drawer design is very convenient for an under-counter installation like ours. This unit replaced a traditional designed microwave that required kneeling to use. However, the Sharp is not quite as powerful requiring longer cooking times. The main design flow of the Sharp is the timer function, that every microwave should have and be easy to use. On this model, there is no dedicated timer button; rather it is embedded in the button to access the microwave's settings (clock, wi-fi, alarms, etc.). Sharp, for some reason, placed the timer feature (used frequently) second in the settings behind clock (used rarely). Consequently, it is easy to reset the clock when you think you are setting the timer. There are other ease of use features missing from Sharp that where part of our previous microwave. Despite the minor shortcomings, the microwave is working well for us.

This is a lovely microwave. I love the design and so far it's working well. I especially like that it's out of the way and leaves my kitchen with clean uncluttered lines. This is the 2nd one I purchased, the first being for another home. :-)

The microwave works well. No exploding food! The "wave to open" feature does not work well.

Recently did a kitchen remodel and we wanted a microwave drawer. Before making the decision did my due diligence and looked at reviews and found that Sharp is the only true manufacturer of the drawer model so that narrowed our decision and the exact model was narrowed by the features of it. I love the option of motion door opening. I leave that turned on but i have had it open when it wasn't intended but that was user error. We place the drawer near a location that we stand in front of and dry dishes so the motion option is accidentally activated. But again it not the drawer fault but be aware of your placement. I am confident that if it was in another location it would not be accidentally activated. Just standing in front or walking way will not cause it to open. The option to use the Sharp app to operate it is another nice feature. The Wattage power is excellent and performance in reheating or cooking has been spot on. The interior size of the drawer is excellent for our use and no complaints there. The close drawer options are great. You can nudge it closed or select an option on the pop open control panel. While speaking about the panel and reason for our decision the glass control panel and not a plastic surface. We use the microwave daily and it when the panel starts to show wear. Hopefully it would not happen with the glass and removing fingerprints it a simple wipe. The hidden panel is also another reason for our decision. We've owned the microwave for several month and do not regret our decision. This a superior product.

Terrible product. The panel shorts and the microwave dies. When I got it serviced the repairman told me it was full of cheap electronics and that he saw most of them only last a few months. I use mine rarely and it only lasted 2 years.

If you are hoping to heat up something like a cup of coffee and a smaller plate item, this microwave is not for you. I’ve had a repair person come out and was told it is what it is, the new sensors and lower wattage are the contributing factors. I basically either can’t heat the item or have to build a structure out of plates and cups to make the item seem bigger.

The Sharp 2489ESD is a very good microwave. The only objection I have with it is that it doesn’t have a rotating plate like most microwaves have. Since it’s missing this feature the food doesn’t get hot evenly across.

I have been using this microwave since our remodel was finished on January 23 2025. So far I love it. And am pleasantly surprised at how well it works. I am hoping it will work for a long time.

The App for my Google Pixel phone is not available and some features are only upgradable using the phone app, like the wave to open.
