Q: Does this product contain silicone?

submitted by Discerning Dame - 2 years ago
  • A: Thanks for reaching out that is a great question! Some of our hair care products contain protein derivatized silicone, which has a dual functionality—it increases moisture while providing a reinforcement to the cuticle for strengthening properties. Our formulations may be subject to change so please always check the label for the most up-to-date information.

This is a KEEPER!

I have used Shea Moisture's Coconut Hibiscus line for years but I finally needed a great deep conditioning masque. I usually don't use a DC because I don't want to take the time. Boy, has that changed! On 4/15th I bought the Deep Moisturizing Masque for the first time. I bought several packets because I didn't know if it would work for me or if I would even like it.. I am type 4c natural and have been chemical-free since 1997. Yeah! No YT or anything else, so I know from which I speak. After shampooing, I used it for the 1st time w/ medium heat for 30 mins. WOW! I plan to keep using this. I didn't upload a picture but I will next time. Even though I am new to using this Masque, I went out again today (11 days later) and bought the jar and not the sample packets. Getting ready to get my wash & deep condition on! Thank you for such a wonderful product that's well worth adding the 30 min deep conditioning to my routine. It's still a simple routine: I prep the hair, shampoo, use the masque, style products/lite oils & twist. Also, those complaining about the ingredients should actually look up each one. I didn't use the previous masque so I can't compare them but I am beyond thrilled w/ the condition of my hair and I even had less shedding after the one use.

My hair loves these products. I’m natural so I’m very picky about what goes in my hair and these are great. My hair responds well to them

Laden with chemicals in comparison to original

The ingredients are not the same as the original. So many chemicals have been added to the new formula. This is sad. Now I can't use this product. To say, "new formula, " "8x the moisture" as a branding tactic is so disappointing and deceptive when the ingredients list is filled with chemicals and the original (with a slight name change) was a much healthier and effective formula. Black people use/used this product because of the quality ingredients. efficacy and because it was Black owned. I am not disparaging the owner's sale of the company, but rather Unilever's direction to change the formulation to include chemicals. Offer two versions, the original and this price value version, or, simply the original formulation. It is upsetting that the original no longer exists. I know it is a cost saving measure. But I know the brand is loosing customers as a result. Please bring back the original, even if it has to be after inflation decreases.

I have wavy, very frizzy and thick hair that is heat damaged and wasnt taken care of. My hair is tangle free, softer and easier to deal with after using this masque. The frizz will never go away but definitely more manageable after this masque

Buy it!! But take care of your hair PRIOR to using!!! It helps but it's not a miracle maker!

Okay so I made a review on Mielles Deep conditioner and also used this after and I’d say that if this doesn’t work for you please make sure your hair is healthy first! This is so important. If it’s not and you try to use this it’ll only do so much, but if your hair is damaged, dry, brittle etc, you have to take necessary pre/care like deep condition, protein, etc! My hair was so dry/brittle and I went in with shea’s curl cream and it didn’t do anything. Now since I’m taking more care of my hair, I used the product again and I see the difference. I don’t have pictures unfortunately but trust me. Anyways, after using this my hairs never been so moist and my curls are back! I dyed my hair back in august and I regret it. Now I’m finally going back to my roots (literally). It has a weird smell but it’s not bad, just not good either lol. But idc, this works!!!

Ugh this product did absolutely nothing for my dry hair! I ended up tossing it! But what didn’t work for me might work better for someone else. I give it two stars because although it didn’t work for me and I hate making returns, I still love this brand and swear by it.

Came by to check the Ingredients after some time now and this is just so sad! Polyquaternium 10 and a bunch of Copolymers? The original formula would NEVER!!! This is what happens when you sell out to corporate guys. Same with Devacurl, Curlsmith and Paulas Choice. These brands are fooling us all :(

Super moisturizing. I live in a dry state and have 2C-3B curls. I’ve used this mask once but I really love it. Other masks I’ve used my hair will feel moisturized after the shower and the rest of the day but then feel dry and brittle the next. Not with this masks. I love this brand and they have great products

They now have the new and improved formula that doesn't work for my hair anymore. They added more moisture(water) and it does not keep the frizz away like it did previously. Leaves my hair mushy and limp. Shea moisture please stop adding more moisture to your products and changing the ingredients. They don't work ws well and now I have to find a new brand. So frustrating trying to find something that works in 3b extra frizzy hair.

i had been using this masque as a sort of mousse for over a year. running low so i went to buy some more at the grocery store, but i read the ingredients and noticed some disappointing changes. what was once a blend of natural plant-based oils is now a gross concoction of alcohol, fragrances and other filler ingredients. such a shame, they used to be doing something good. now you could replace this with any other gimmicky hair produce for cheaper and get the same results. i will be searching etsy for a new, clean hair masque going forward.

#freeproduct I'm so glad I got to try the SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Leave-In, my 2C-3A hair loves it! My hair has been drier as of late and I used this after shampooing and conditioning my hair and only left it on for 2 minutes the first time and the curls felt so much healthier and happier. I could not smell it after my hair dried too. I would definitely recommend.
